Pepito has the explorer spirit, just like Christopher Columbus! What a little cutie!

Oh, I wish, Ruth! Just my own experiences, and hoping others benefit from them. When the birds are out, I do a "one, two, three" count making sure they are accounted for - Blue has always loved foraging around on the floor, picking up bits of dirt. So have always been concerned to not come around a corner and step on him. Only just recently Sparky decided to try, because where-ever Blue goes, Sparky must follow and then Smudge had to see what was so interesting - after 2 years of staying off the floor! So now I may have three foraging at any one time. Sounds like Pepito is going to keep you and your mum on your toes for a long time to come! Just when you have covered one event, he will be discovering something else to make your hair curl, lol.

Ah, I don't need my hair to curl any more actually,it's quite shocking as it is! He's definitely on the hunt for new adventures and things to try out though so maybe I should get the straighteners ready.. He's been a bit naughty tonight. Mum was on the phone and he landed on her shoulder - when she kept chatting to my brother on the phone instead of paying attention to him he nipped her on the ear! We will have to really teach him that's not the way to get attention...

He could be reaching that teenage part of his life, and we all know what they are like, lol. Yes definitely nip that one in the bud, pardon the pun. I would love to meet this little character.

Well Hezz, if you are ever passing through Scotland you'd get a warm welcome from us and Pepito! I think he is getting to that teenage stage as he rarely nipped anyone (Unless it was unintentional, like when he's playing with my necklace!) but now he does it quite often we try to stop him doing something he shouldn't be and sometimes for no apparent reason. I just send him away if he bites, he only gets to stay on me if he's nice! Hopefully he'll learn it's not acceptable..

I think he will - he wants to be with his people. If he is really naughty about it, like nip you and then your mum, you can try putting him in his cage. While Sparky, bless his little socks, has only ever bitten me twice, Bluey and Smudge do have a little nip that they give if they aren't really happy with what I want them to do. they will get the skin on a knuckle and give it a pull (rather than a bite - they know that will cause them grief) Message sent; message received and understood, lol. Ah, thanks, Ruth. I would love to visit Scotland one day. Would have to buy a few more clothes first, lol.

You would need more clothes if you came just now Hezz as it's been down around -6 degrees here.. Pepito is proving to be difficult about going back to his cage when we want him to right now. He flies round and round the room landing here and there and moving off when I come to get him. I think he thinks it's just a good game! ;D But I keep saying "go home!" and he eventually ends up going in on his own so I think he knows what that means now. He certainly doesn't like getting sent away from me when he's been naughty so hopefully he'll learn. When I need him to go back to his play stand or cage for any other reason I try to chat to him for a few seconds first or give him a toy or treat to go to so he knows the difference between 'time's up' and 'time out'!

Well done, you! He is a clever little fella (aren't they all???), he will learn in no time. I do remember having moments with Bluey especially, not co-operating with going home when needed - usually gave me the run-around when I HAD to be out of the house by a certain time. He would try it on for a few days and then not have the time out that he normally got, due to his non-compliance. I think he picked up rather quickly what was the outcome, but then would forget and be naughty again. PS So my singlet, shorts and flip-flops wouldn't quite be enough, Ruth???

Hezz, your singlet, shorts and flipflops wouldn't be enough for summertime in Scotland! I really needed Pepito to go back in his cage today as we were in a hurry, but he was playing up so I did a bad thing. I put a finger on his little foot for a second until I got him in the cage.. Have you ever seen a surprised budgie? I think he was still wondering why he suddenly couldn't take off when he found himself back in his cage already! He wasn't as annoyed as I thought he'd be - but I'll try to give us both time to play the going home game in future!

No, not a bad thing. A necessary thing. It had been mentioned to me as a means to an end too a long time ago, but can't remember from where, and haven't used it much. They do tend to wise up to it fairly quickly, though, as I remember. Yes that look on their face........bleddy thing, why won't it move.....?? Scotland definitely means more clothes, then Was reading a book based in Sweden recently and the author was descibing a "hot" summer's day......... I had to chuckle......he was Swedish as well.

You would love Scotland even if you had to wear all your clothes at the same time! I do hope you make it over for a visit sometime - maybe we could have a forum reunion if you did!! ;D I read a post by Bonesy somewhere where she recommends getting budgies used to being held on your finger by a foot so they can be taken to safety in an emergency. I've found it difficult to hold onto him for more than a couple of seconds though as he flaps and struggles so much. It does seem like a good idea to teach him to accept it though, if I can.

Should we let Marianne in too, Ruth? Yeah, okay, then. I know what you are saying, yes, they certainly do flap around and try to get away. I was afraid they might dislocate their leg or foot joints by pulling so hard. I think I would rather use that to hold them and then bundle them up in my hand. A foot is so little, and they can easily escape........especially when they sense what is coming.

Oh what fun! Sure Marianne can come! We might be a bit squashed up but Pepito says he will share his cage too so we should fit.. ;D
Pepito has taught himself a new trick! He has a ball hanging in his cage and a little cup I put fruit and veggies in for him. Yesterday I noticed he was swinging the ball toward the cup and he eventually got it in. He sat there looking at it in amazement after then knocked it out and started again. I will have to try to get a photo for the competition!
