The rescue told me he's male, but I'm just not sure. I will love him either way (but may call him/her a he even if he's a she, because I'm a creature of habit! lol)
The cere is purple, though perhaps some lightness around the nostrils? I don't really see it in person but zooming in on the pics it looks like perhaps there are rings. I'm certainly no expert!
If these pics aren't good enough to tell, I will work on getting some better ones

Someone more expert will be along soon, but looks like a beautiful boy to me......gorgeous

Hmm, I can see why you are questioning. Judging by your description and the fact that some of the photos seem to contradict the others, I'm inclined to say boy still, as well. What sort of light was he in? That can make a difference.

I'm not sure if those pics are natural daylight, or room light at night. I will get some more pics in natural light (as soon as there is some...dark and rainy right now!) and I'll post them

How old is Sky?
The cere looks purple to me so I am going to guess boy.
Is it purple in person?

Is it purple in person? krystal has said in the first post that the cere is purple ... quote " though perhaps some lightness around the nostrils"unquote which does show up on one of the photos. I'v gone with boy as well, going by the description and the majority of the photos.

Ah, sorry, missed the bit about it being purple I say boy then. Snowy's cere was this sort of colour when he came to me and he was also a dominant pied.

Thanks everyone for weighing in on this!
I don't have an age on him, other than adult since his bars are gone and he's got the eye ring. But his cere definitely looks purple to me in person no matter what kind of light he's in. Should I still try to get some pics in natural daylight this weekend? Everyone seems pretty sure he's a boy
Marianne, are you saying Sky is a dominant pied? I'm not familiar with the different types of budgies yet, but it might explain some of his markings that I thought were a bit odd, not what I'm used to seeing from my past budgies. He has more white on wings and tail, and a white patch on the back of his head. All that white across the blue is how he ended up being called Sky

Yes, a photo in natural light would still be helpful.
Your budgie is a Sky Blue Dominant pied. If the budgie was a recessive pied, they wouldn't have the iris ring and also, the body colour would be plainer with less markings.

I will try to get some good natural light photos. Hopefully this weekend, if it's not dark and rainy!
Sky blue dominant pied sounds pretty fancy! Now he's REALLY going to be full of himself lol

I agree with Marianne that his mutation is sky blue dom pied.
