Everyone here has been so great so far, I figured I better formally introduce myself!
I'm Krystal, and I just adopted my Sky on 4/14, so he's only been home with me a bit over a week. He's from an avian rescue who mostly specializes in large parrots, but they take in budgies as well. His last parent dropped him off with no information so we don't know what kind of life he had or how old he is.
I grew up with budgies, my dad had them as a kid and we had them up until we got a cat. Our last budgie had passed away, and before we got another a stray cat chose us as her home so that was that! But my earliest baby pictures of me getting a bath, in my high chair....all have Pretty Pete the budgie sitting on my head
I live in the US, on central time, so I get the feeling my times are pretty opposite from a lot of the folks here! I work in healthcare (human variety, orthopedic surgery), and aside from my new little budgie my hobby is competitive canine sports. I have a pug, which is not usually known as a sporting breed, but people underestimate them! My pug has no prey drive and will happily have his morning pee next to a terrified bunny, only to trot off without paying him any mind at all. He won't even look at Sky. But he has several agility titles and now competes in scent work!
I look forward to getting to know everyone and their budgies!

It's lovely to know a bit about a 'newbie' member so thank you for that. I have answered/commented on some of your other posts, but welcome to the forum. It's a really friendly place and through the members experiences there is a whole realm of good information about budgies on here. Don't know what I would have done without it. So I hope you get lots of pleasure from the forum as well as your budgie Sky!

Hi and welcome, Sky and Krystal. Re your pug and agility trials, I was watching an episode of Supervet last week with a ... not sure now whether it was a pug or french bulldog/pug cross doing agility. He had to stop due to the stress on his back after spinal surgery.

My pug actually had to retire from agility due to spine issues. He has IVDD (narrowing of the spine) and ruptured a disc (not while running agility). He lost the use of his back legs for a bit, but luckily he was able to fully recover! So no we do scent detection, which I think is his absolute favorite thing to do. He works as serious as a K9 unit
