I'd try going back to adding the MT to his water. It may just be too much for him, undiluted.
As for Ben feeding Max, I really don't think there is much you can do about it, and I really wouldn't worry too much about it, either. If it were the other way round, that might be a worry, but not with Ben doing the feeding. Maybe being fed something already slightly broken down is easier for him to stomach, if he is feeling off-colour, still. What about feeding him soaked seed for a few days? That might be easier for him.

I really think it's the Milk Thistle Hezz. The vet read the MT bottle, and said that 4 drops per 100ml of water wasn't getting enough into him, taking into account his weight and how much budgies drink on a daily basis, which isn't a lot given that they are desert birds.

Why not try the four drops into less water, say 50mls? That is plenty of water for two buds for one day. I've not had one not drink the water, and not had one not feel better for it. I'm really hoping it can be the same for Max. xx

Thanks Hezz I'll do that tomorrow. I'll give him until maybe Thursday/Friday with the MT in the water, and if I dont see some improvement in him I'll phone the vet. Thanks Hezz for all your help x

Another day and not any improvement in Max. Medication is finished and he had the MT in his water instead of beak, so I thought I might see him a bit brighter today. He's hardly eaten all day until I put a piece of millet in for them both about 3pm, then he ate that, same yesterday.
I'm at a loss as to how to help him, he also seems to be straining to do a poop, and his balance is a bit off too.

I'm not sure what to recommend. I am sorry you have not seen any improvement. Does he like carrot?
Just wondering if he'll eat anything with a high water content that might help him poop.

There's not much tempting him at the minute Marianne, I gave them millet grass today, it hardly got touched. It was only at night when he ate his seeding grasses.
If he doesn't pick up tomorrow, I'll phone the vet.

It does sound as though there is more going on than just the lipoma for poor Max. Generally the lipoma doesn't affect them too much, it is just an added weight to carry around, although obviously the liver is under strain as well. I would still continue with the milk thistle until you can see the vet. I'm sorry you aren't seeing any improvement, poor little man.

As regulars on here know my Squawk had liver disease and the diet was key to keep him going. He was changed to Harrison’s lifetime pellets permanently and Avipro Avian in his water for a few weeks and as and when thereafter. His diet had to be simple, just fresh food, no millet or treats. It was a boring diet for him (especially as he was such a millet monster) but gave him another 4 years of life and with 3 of them he was doing really well. He was put on milk thistle powder with icartine last January and it was only the last 5-6 months that he really went downhill. I hope that helps jellybean and I’m sorry to read yours has liver disease. Whatever diet/treatment you decide for your bird will be right I’m sure. Marianne Marlow is right in saying it’s genetic mostly as Squawk was a few months old when his symptoms emerged. As sad as it is at least ours have owners that care so much. Good luck x
