Stuart wasn't any older than 4months when I got him, and he is on his own with only me and the radio for company, so I've done all I can...it's up to him now. Thanks everyone for your help. X

I DID get him a mirror - along with other toys. He freaked out while I was putting it in his cage, and has steadfastly avoided going near it since. I don't get it. He won't move from in front of the big mirror at my mum's house. He even climbs up to the top of his cage where he can just about catch the bottom couple of inches of it.

Tried that too ffiscool he wasn't playing. I've put it in his cage for now to see if he approaches it, but he's been much more interested in the big boy shredding toy. I don't know how long big parrots make them last, Stuart has emptied three of the eight tubes and started to massacre them in 24 hours. I'm sure an African Grey would have wrecked the whole thing in 5 minutes lol. Still the point of the thread was that I felt like I was depriving him of a mirror, but turns out he doesn't seem to want one anyway. I wouldn't have predicted that. Lol

He's discovered the mirror, and is loving it. It's one of those that hangs on the top of the cage with a perch on either side, and he's back and forth from side to side constantly, so I guess it's his new favourite thing.

Well yes, you have to when there’s a bud on both sides looking back at you
