Not a dropping but I’ve had an issue with seed recently & thought should mention it as a warning to others. I’ve had an infestation of Indian meal moths - we had no idea until the moths kept appearing. Turns out they came in with some bird seed. My mum said the seed mix looked slightly different especially at the end with more ‘dust’ than normal but that sometimes happens doesn’t it so she didn’t think anything much of it. Brodie ate it & is fine (thankfully) - again, a reason not to think there was an issue. I honestly hadn’t realised moths could come in like that & I suppose others may be in a similar position. Everything in that cupboard has been thrown out & I’ve had no new moths but there is the possibility they have bred. 😬 Anyway, it’s a lesson to check your seed mix rather than assuming it’s fine! Moths are a very common issue with seeds. I've never had a problem, but then I do freeze my seed for a couple of days before the birds get to have any. The moth larva will be in the seed when you buy it and this is the cause of the dust found in the bottom of the packet - either the larva feeding or the adult moths once hatched.

We’re going to start freezing the seed too Hezz, top tip! We’ve had budgies in the family for 32yrs & never encountered this before!

I shouldn't say I "freeze" the seed, because the seed itself doesn't actually freeze, but any bugs in it will. I put it into the freezer for about 48hrs, as it doesn't freeze it doesn't need to be thawed but there may be a small amount of moisture on the bag when you remove it. Just make sure your bag is dry before storing it.

All our flour lives in the freezer, as well.
