He has his moments Hezz, the worst thing is when the phone rings. He screeches so loud that I have to say to the person on the other end, 'hang on a minute' and I have to go upstairs, otherwise you just can't hear what the person is saying. My neighbour can hear him next door and we are not even joined on to her house! Yes if I had him longer I would buy a pair of gauntlets so I would be confident and then set about taming him properly.

I can hear Loki from about three houses before ours when I drive up, and we are not exactly sited right on the street. OH tells me he starts off when I'm about half way up the street - so about 5 houses out.

Fun and games last night. He had destroyed a wooden toy and a big piece of it had gone to the bottom of the cage. It is a really shallow tray and the wood was stuck! I tried to put my arm through to get it out and he lunged for me! I ended up with the kitchen tongs fishing the wood back out. I think that confirms that I really couldn't have him out. He goes home tomorrow!

It is his block and you, to him, were trying to steal it! I fully understand his reaction. The reality is that budgies are such simple creatures compared to the larger parrots, and respect is a very real thing with them. While Freddy goes home tomorrow, Helen, has anything been decided as to what happens if your Dad passes on before Freddy does? Sorry to broach such a topic, but it is a very real concern for many with long living parrots, especially if acquired when the parrot is likely to out-live the human. I've already warned my (most receptive) son that he will be Loki's next home if both OH and I are out-lived by him.

No I definitely won’t OP. Yes Hezz my brother would have him, he lived at Mum and Dads for a few years recently after a marriage breakup and Freddy is more used to him. I have made it perfectly clear that I am not having him! A funny though, when my Dad came to collect Freddy on Saturday, he started saying “there’s parrots staving in Africa” my dad apparently says it to him when he wastes food. My dad got him out of the cage and Freddy tipped his head forward so that Dad could scratch his neck. He made me feel very unloved. Ha ha.

You must be relieved that your brother is to be Freddy's next home. I always hate the thought of the birds having to be rehomed just anywhere.
