This little guy was advertised at a nearby exotic pet centre. Look how tame he is. I could be very tempted. We saw these quaker birds flying wild when we were on holiday in Gran Canaria. I better not go anywhere near the shop or I am sure to end up with one!

Oooh I would be sorely tempted too! Who wouldn't?! Has having Freddy around for a week sparked something off internally for you helenmat? Are you getting parrot broody?

Lol samwiseg, It wasn't Freddy but more the fact that we were watching the quaker Parakeets every day while we were away and they fascinated us. It would be a massive commitment as they have a life span of 25 years. Plus I feel guilty about Eric as I am not sure they would be compatible with each other. This is a pic of one I took on holiday, there were massive flocks of them squabbling in the palm trees. Apparently they are as common as our magpies over there.

I would be being selfish. I already leave Eric longer than is ideal, which is why we got two birds in the first place. I would need to devote more time not less to a bird like this.

I know I know, I just so so miss the interaction, Eric just doesn't seem bothered either way. He doesn't come out of his cage unless we bring him out. I could leave the door open all day and often do and he would never come out of his own accord. We have never known why but it makes you feel very unloved. If I bring him out he will sit on my shoulder for about 30 seconds and then just goes straight back in. He doesn't seem to play with toys. But he does chatter and chirp all the time so I don't think he is unhappy. He definitely competes with us when we are talking. I find it all a bit frustrating. I have never known a bird who wants to stay in their cage before, I find it odd.

Why not think about getting him a budgie friend? A quaker and Eric wouldn't be able to be out together unless under supervision. I know you haven't had the best run of luck with your budgies, but another might just be the tonic that Eric needs.
