Can I please ask what a Kevin is?! It's one of those jingly cat ball toys. The lattice type balls with the bell inside. My old bird once said 'come on' to one but it sounded a bit like Kevin.

Isn't that the most frequently asked toy question! Maybe one of the longer term members will come on and give you the history of the name. It is the bell hanging on the end of the toy in the picture.

Can I please ask what a Kevin is?! Not laughing at you, Karen; since then Munchy's cat balls have all been Kevins. After all, they can't be cat balls when they are a budgie's best friend. And so the name has stuck.

I made these coconut case toys for esp Cookie. She needs more engagement.. They have never taken to a toy this easily.. it takes them weeks or months..! Even with the millet sprays inside! They are more attracted to natural toys, i guess. Breezie fell thrice from the perch yesterday, so I'm trying with bamboo mats inside the cage and few plain papers. Just worried about foot injuries, if they keep playing that intensely.. to forget where the perch is!

mona The reason that your hen has taken to these toys so easily is that she probably sees it as a nesting spot. Unfortunately they may encourage her to lay eggs, so may not be a good idea. What do you think Hezz?

Oops! 🤦♀️🤦♀️ I can remove the coconut shells from the current setup and leave the rest of the structure there..the sticks paper and the bamboo ball..
Or how about if I change it to hang the coconut shell upside down? That wouldn't look like a nesting space to her.. the mini paper strips I can just bundle together and hang it somewhere on it for her to shred and throw away..

Agree with Marianne Marlow about Cookie seeing the upturned shell as a nesting place, but turning them upside down should work. You could string things up to fit inside so that she had to play to get to the pieces of paper etc. I've always thought my budgies were more interested in their natural toys as well. If you can get hold of some dried out pine cones, you can stuff little bits of millet, paper and whatever else you can think of into the gaps and hang it up. The larger parrots will pull the pine cone to bits as well, and the budgies can have a nibble on them as well. They are great for holding all sorts of bits and pieces.
