Your Nubbs reminds me of myself. I can fix my hair perfectly and put on my neatest clothes. The minute I step out the house, my hair goes in 10 different directions and my clothes shift to where ever they want to be! Nubbs - greetings from your soulmate across the ocean!

As long as he’s happy, which he clearly is, Is the good thing. Funny how it doesn’t show up from day 1.
How lovely to be preened.
Also made me laugh re the hair/kindred spirit, but totally get it, bad hair/feather days!

Oh they preen each other regularly ffiscool, its the first time Murph has ever been preened and learnt to preen another in his life! I was so chuffed the first time it happened as getting to the grand age he is without a groomer must've been tough

I have always said, if I end up with someone, I would want them to be a hairdresser... would be amazing and save so much money, so to have a groomer indeed must be lovely.. v pleased for him

Interesting to see what is actually going on with the feathers. Glad he's happy otherwise and Murph and Nubbs have each other.

Hector's were like that but he didn't have FM, he used to mutilate the feathers- after (not before) he stopped being able to fly. I assume it was frustration.

Willow is approx 10 months old and has been going through his first proper moult for the last week or two. He has no health issues that I'm aware of but I have noticed that some of the feathers on the leading edge of his right wing look really tatty with some of the barbs really thin and straggly. It seems to be localised in a small area near to the base of the feathers. I originally thought that they were just old and ready to be replaced but he hasn't lost them yet and there is one in particular that seems to be causing him a lot of bother. It sometimes sticks up at right angles to his wing and then later it will shift back into place. I can hear him chewing at it and adjusting it with his beak. It can't be comfortable for him and I suspect that a couple of the feathers next to it have the same problem. I was going to wait until he lost the feather so that I could get a good look at it and post a decent picture but now that I've seen this thread I'm panicking as I know nothing about French Moult at all. Sorry, the pictures aren't very clear, but do you think it could be French Moult? Are there any other symptoms I should be looking for? Anything I can do to help him?

samwiseg sorry, I wasn't thinking clearly last night. I meant to ask how Nubbs is getting on? I hope he's OK?

I'm still not sure if that's what I'm seeing in Willow.
