Thanks tweetiepiesmomAnd thank you too skysmum. It's good to know how your birds got on with a French Moult, and that it didn't cause harm to the others. They got to such wonderful ages! It does seem that both viruses are contagious and can be passed to adults but adult birds can often fight them off, or already have immunity. There does seem to be some disagreement though about whether the viruses can be passed on to adults.I think circovirus is the more contagious of the two. I'm finding reading up on the viruses very interesting, especially how the circovirus affects some species more than others, with cockatoos being the worst affected. It was also interesting reading how the circovirus suppresses the immune system. Randolph Carter was quite perky this evening, so I think his long naps today have helped. He's been interacting with both his buddies and he evaded capture for even longer and tried to hide himself behind the other two. And all 3 got up on their swings really nicely at bedtime. Hopefully he'll be perkier still tomorrow. I still don't want to get my hopes up too much but I am feeling more positive.

I read an article a short time ago, when I had the young SC cockatoo in my aviary regarding the percentage of certain wild birds that are at least carriers of the virus. The one that astounded me the most was in finches: around 90% of wild finches (world wide) are thought to be carriers or actively infected. They are scary stats.

Randolph Carter hasn't need such long naps today. He escaped from David this morning and flew round the room. He's just been doing a bit of beak bashing with Dean Stockwell and now he's eating his tea. I'm so pleased he's feeling better.

Randolph Carter is continuing to improve His dropping are looking good although the whites do still look a bit yellow compared to the other boys but it's going to take a while for his liver to recover fully. I'm so happy he's doing better! He's getting weighed tomorrow so hopefully he will have put on a little bit. His beak hasn't got any longer, and I think it might look like he's starting to wear it down already so hopefully it won't need trimming. Despite being more than twice his size, Randolph Carter was trying to hide behind Dean Stockwell at medicine time last night. Dean Stockwell was not at all happy about that and told him off.

I'm so glad that RC is improving Ha ha, poor Dean Stockwell, maybe RC was hoping you'd medicate him instead

Bless RC, i'm so pleased he is feeling better, beak bashing is always a good sign . Had to laugh at Marianne's comment because i thought exactly the same, "go on DS it's your turn, take the stuff from the nice lady"

Thanks everyone.
Yep, I think you are right - he was hoping we'd catch Dean Stockwell instead! I hadn't thought of it that way. We plan to weigh Dean Stockwell tomorrow so that should please Randolph Carter until he realises he still has to be caught too! Rather than catching Dexter I should be able to lure him on to the scales with Miss Peacock.
Randolph Carter's breathing is mostly back to normal now (unless he's just had his medicine), and his posture looks better too - he's standing up a bit taller on his legs.
It's so tricky how his illness crept up on us. It came on gradually, without any dramatic changes, so it was hard to notice something was wrong, especially because he was still singing and playing etc. He is getting better much more quickly and it's much easier to see the changes.

So happy that he is feeling better, criswell. I, too had to laugh at RC hiding behind the smaller DS. I was thinking along the lines of "there is no RC here, nothing to see but DS. You can have him, if you like."

It is so funny seeing him trying to hide. There is nothing in the cage big enough for him to hide behind but it doesn't stop him trying.
Since Dean Stockwell is so itchy at the moment I turned the heating up a bit more and let them have a bath. Randolph Carter gave his face and neck a really good wash - I've never seen him get his face so wet before, but didn't get the rest of himself wet, so hopefully no harm done. His face must be getting a bit sticky with escaped medicine so I think he feels better for it. Dean Stockwell jumped right in for a good soaking and looks a bit more comfortable now.
Thank you all again for the wonderful support. I don't know where I'd be without you.

Thank you.
I weighed him last night and he's 64g so that's up 2g in 6 days which is encouraging. I've lost my confidence a little bit after not being able to tell he was so sick but I think he's doing well. I had a bit of a panic this morning that he was worse but he not long had his medicine and I think the was worried that I might catch him again. His droppings are so much better and hardly distinguishable from the other boys so that is an improvement I can't doubt.

It’s understandable that you feel anxious at the moment but from your account RC is doing well. I worry about my current buds if they are being quiet and dozing. We care which is better than not. RC is a very lucky boy to have you
