Contraversial to show a cat, I'm sure. But this is my housemate's cat, Lily. Apparently my lap is the chosen one this evening.

Did you mind? She looks very comfortable.

No, I don't mind. It's quite cosy really, though she's a bit like a furry hot water bottle so it can get a bit warm. But considering how often she bopped my ankles when I first moved in, it's nice that she now trusts me enough to fall asleep on my lap.
She started dreaming at one point. Her paws were twitching.

"Cats is pets too". I wouldn't have one now, but certainly have in the past.

Have had pet cats in the past, and though they can be fickle at times they are very snuggly and warm to cuddle (if they decide of course) My mum used to find our cat sleeping round my head at night sometimes?!

samwiseg Heads are warm places! An old friend's cat would climb into bed with you and start kneading your head! I'm currently annoyed at her because she managed to get into my room this morning and sat on my altar staring at the budgies, so that's a double offence right there. Fortunately she couldn't actually get to them. No cuddles or treats for her from me for a while at least. (Cue pause in typing because said budgies both decided that my keyboard was a prime play area) I always wanted a cat when I was younger, but my nan was never a pet person, so the fact that I had a hamster and two budgies over the course of my time living with her was nothing short of a miracle. I'm still partly tempted by a cat as a pet. Without the birds, obviously. They might be more okay with my work hours than a single bird would. I know they can be aloof, but you kind of just expect that from a cat, which might be why I find that less... not sure of the word I'm looking for... I guess I'm used to having Munchy interact with me and I haven't adjusted to only really being able to watch their antics. Probably struggling to win Peri's trust doesn't help with that. Think I like being hands on a bit too much. Yet this morning I've had Munchy down in the living room with me by himself. He was essentially his old self and even though he chose to sit in the cage a fair bit he was chatting away happily enough, but he's so much more active when Peri's around. He'll still occasionally contact call for me, especially when I leave the room, but not randomly, and he still has his Kevin-obsessed moments but he probably only developed that because he didn't get enough attention from my grandparents and I, so I don't know if I could feel that any budgie of mine was actually happy alone. But I also don't know how I feel about owning budgies after Munchy. The thought of him not being around seems very strange. But then I've never owned a cat so don't know what that would be like. And can't own a cat anyway whilst Lily's still around because she really can't stand having other cats around. (Plus other than the differences in smell, budgie feathers are far less annoying to me than cat hair sticking to all my clothes though it's not a big deal.) Sorry, that turned into a random splurge. Guess even though I'm limited as to what I can actually do at the moment, I'm still trying to puzzle out what would be the best choice. I want to own a pet (even though a pet rock is apparently the best pet choice for nurses) and want to feel happy and content about owning them (not sure how much of my current discontent is getting used to having two birds, or down to living circumstances, or the myriad other things on my mind) but of course want them to be happy too. And now before I finally shush and stop boring you all, I will take a moment to appreciate that Peri is an idiot (bless him ) who forgets ever single time that he has to actually go into the cage to get at the contents of the seed bowl.

I like the look of cats and the idea of them as pets Ira and your lady seems like a good pet. Unfortunately, I'm allergic so it will never happen. I can be in a room with a cat but can't touch them or sit in a chair that the cat has been in I'll enjoy watching their antics from a distance.

She's my housemate's, so I'm often more annoyed at her than anything, tweetiepiesmom Allergies suck. I dozed off and Munchy and Peri had settled down for the night by the time I woke, so I covered up the small cage in the living room, but I think I'll have to wake them later and take them upstairs because when one of them ruffled their feathers earlier Lily heard and got very interested. I've shut Lil out of the living room all day so I really should let her stay in here this evening, otherwise she'll probably be bothering Xana (her owner) all night.

I have an allergy to cat's too, we had a little kitten living with us for a while when my daughter came to live with us last year, her name was Lily, Tigerlily. Thankfully the birds were outside in the aviary at the time because she had to live in the conservatory, because of said allergy and the fact that we have a Jack Russell who was less than impressed Never been overly fond of cats but she did steel a little bit of my heart i have to say, but cleaning the litter tray..............ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.....

I would not own a cat now, regardless of having birds for pets - irresponsible to the wildlife to have one outside, and I could not deal with one inside.

I would never have an outdoor cat because of the wildlife. Tom's (one of my housemates) sister has three indoor cats and their mum has a sensitive nose, but he says their tray was never too bad because there was plenty of litter put in and it got scooped very regularly. I don't see that as much different than picking up after a dog on a walk. Though I must admit that budgie poop is far more pleasant, except maybe when it ends up in my hair...
