So we’re currently at the stage where Peri will sit on my hand if I have millet, but he’ll try to find a way to avoid sitting on me to get the millet, hence I’ve started holding it out of reach. He will stay if Munchy flies off or hop up if Munchy’s not there. If I have nothing in my hand he will still move away from it. Edit: Managed to get him hopping onto a finger when the millet was being held by the other hand, but he has to still see the millet. So I then decided to take them both back up to the big cage on my arm rather than trying to get them into the travel cage. Lily was shut away. However, I made the mistake of taking Munchy up separately first, so then Peri gave me the run around not wanting to get up even with the millet, and then proceeded to want to get to Munchy but derp about finding the cage door... as he is prone to do. Of course, my hand was not suitable transport into the cage. Still, it’s a little step of progress and we can try again tomorrow.

That's epic, i wish my budgies would be like that haha. Did you get Peri and Munchy at the same time, in the same cage? That's what I did with my two.

blumuffin No, I've had Munchy (the yellow budgie) for 8 years as a single bird. Peri joined us at the end of November to keep Munchy company because I'd moved out of my family home.

Marianne Marlow Don't be fooled! They were distracted by millet! Ha! They do look small! Peri was very confused when Munchy got randy with the yellow Kevin.

No, that's Ducky. The yellow Kevin is identical to the blue and red ones, but was off camera at this point.

No, that's Ducky. The yellow Kevin is identical to the blue and red ones, but was off camera at this point. Probably hiding from Munchy!

They are both lovely and you are making great progress. It's great how brave they can be for millet. I was given Randolph Carter some in the cage after his medicine and Dexter flew on to my hand so he could join in.
I have to ask, and you've probably already said else where but why are the balls called Kevins?

criswell The only downside is that to move rooms I have to put them in the travel cage unless I can shut the cat in a room, and I haven’t yet sussed how to move them from cage to cage without catching them, which is fine with Munchy but reminds Peri that I’m a bit scary predator even though nothing bad ever happens to him when I hold him. But if our relationship is based solely on him being a millet junky then I guess that’s better than nothing. I’m amused that I’m up earlier on a weekend so that we can get time in the living room before everyone wakes up and Lily wants to come in with Xana.

samwiseg He's gone all shy again today, but I did end up having to hold him to move into the travel cage. There must be a better way. Edit: criswell Forgot to answer your question! Munchy was once talking to an old ball and said “Come on!” but it sounded more like Kevin.

In the beginning they always take a step forward and then two back he will get there and it will become natural for him as time goes on
