You are so right criswell. Every time I try to take a peek, he starts moving and preening. He's been silent all day which bothers me but maybe the silence is due to being in a new home. He moves away from my hand but he did hop up to eat some millet seeds from my palm! A friend who has had birds including budgies for many years came over to take a look. He didn't think Buddy looked too sick and said it usually takes a couple days for the medicine to take effect. Hope so! Thanks for all your well wishes.

How long had he been with you before he became ill? Was he very chatty before then? It makes it harder for you to tell how he is doing as you've not known him long so you don't know how he normally behaves. He must wonder what is going on with the new home and the medication and everything.
Randolph Carter's dropping showed an improvement a day after he started his meds and continue to improved over the next few days but it took 2 or 3 days before he was definitely brighter and not napping so much. The improvement was gradual, rather than a sudden change to feeling better, so I wasn't sure if he was getting better or not to start with.
You are doing a super job taking care of him.

Thank You criswell. I picked him up on Sunday. During the 6 hour drive he was chirping off and on during the entire drive. He was mostly quiet on Monday. On Tuesday he answered Tweetie Pie's calls a couple of times but I noticed he was fluffed up and closing his eyes a lot. On Wednesday morning I noticed the tail bobbing. He got a drop of antibiotic at the emergency vet on Wednesday afternoon. Thursday morning he saw the avian vet and he got his shot and nose drops. He was eating and drinking OK. Today I think I saw smaller tail bobbing and his breathing looked less difficult but he still wasn't vocal. He wasn't perched fluffed up as much as the previous days. As the sun was setting he flapped his wings a few times and chirped loudly a couple of times so I think he is feeling better. Hopefully he'll be better tomorrow morning. I've kept a cover on his cage with the front open. At night I've put a heating pad under his cage and completely covered him.

It does sound like he's starting to feel better. I hope he's even better today.

Last night when I covered them up, Buddy started flapping his wings and called out a couple of times. This morning he's been quiet even though Tweetie Pie is calling out at the top of his lungs. Buddy is still fluffed up some, breathing harder than Tweetie Pie and closing his eyes. He's eating fine and his droppings look normal. I keep going over to Tweetie Pie and looking at his breathing then go look at Buddy for comparison. Come on little guy, get well!

Hoping Buddy perks up really quickly now he's had a few days of meds. Thinking of you both, and tweetiepie of course!

Thank you @shirls. He seems to have stabilized - not getting worse or better, just the same. At dusk yesterday I covered him up because Tweetie Pie goes to bed at dusk (They are in separate cages at opposite ends of the house). Buddy didn't like it and started flapping so I uncovered him and he settled down. When I went to bed, I covered him and he started flapping again so I left a gap in the front of the cage and a night light on. He seemed to like that. Today I had to give him his nose drops - first time for me. He did not like being grabbed - reminded me of criswell and RC. He squealed and bit but I did manage to get the drop on his nose. I put him back in his cage and tried to get him to eat a bit of a sprig millet that I held for him. HE wouldn't take it so I clipped it to his cage. I keep telling myself that this is for his good, not mine and I'll just have to accept that he's going to be shy of my hand.

I really sympathise with you catching him. It makes me feel so mean and I don't actually do the catching. I'm just the horrible lady who squirts the medicine in his mouth. Randolph Carter won't take millet off me for a little while after his medicine. He'll usually wait until Dexter has had some first.
I'm glad Buddy is doing ok. When is he seeing the vet again?
Do you know if he was covered at night before he came to you? Maybe he's not used to it.
I hope he feels a bit better tomorrow xx

I didn't get much information criswell from the woman who raised him - basically just what she was feeding him and that he spent a good amount of time out of his cage. Based on how he acts when I cover him, I don't think he has been covered. His breathing is about the same but he and Tweete Pie were calling and Buddy added in some chirps. His next vet visit is Thurs. I'm hoping his breathing really improves. The vet did say that I could take him in the bathroom when I take my shower. The products I use don't have much fragrance but I'm hesitant to expose him to them.

The steamy, humid environment of the bathroom while the shower is running is really good for opening up their airways when they have respiratory problems, or you can make a mini sauna using a small cage, a bowl of hot (steaming) water and a heavy blanket. One of my budgies has a chronic sinus infection so this is what I do for him when I see that he is a bit snotty. Just check him every five minutes or so to make sure he isn't over-heating.

How is Buddy feeling today? Did you try the steam?

He seems to be slightly better today. I did try the steam criswell but I can't tell if it had any benefit because he was so frightened. Also I'm not sure how much of his being quiet is due to the illness and how much is due to being in a new place. Oh, bless his little heart! As I'm typing this Tweetie Pie is yelling at the top of his lungs and Buddy is chirping back! All kinds of little chirps!

It's brilliant news that Buddy is chirping back. He really must be feeling better. I'm sure your right that some of his quietness is due to his new surroundings. I'm really pleased that he's doing better
