When I set up the box I put I good layer of shavings (I bought it at the pet shop). Since you didn’t start that way, I would add it around the sides and let momma do the rest. You can’t change things up too much now that things are in progress. You don’t want to upset anyone. Nature will take care of things now. Do your best to keep it clean. That’s all you can do. Give mom options. Make sure it’s warm. If your house is cool, you can use a ceramic bulb near the nest box to keep it warm. 💕👍🏻 Or.... add shavings gradually

Awwww I’m so sorry. Have you removed it? Mother Nature has her way. Just keep an eye on things. That’s all you can do for now. Good luck. Hugs.

So sorry about the first chick - hoping the rest will do well. Ceramic bulb for heat - look for a bulb that is advertised for keeping reptiles warm. I know Amazon carries them. If there is a pet store near you that sells reptiles they would most likely carry the ceramic bulbs.

The hen has been out the nest a good few times? She is still sitting on the eggs but I've noticed her out more.

Only time will tell if she's giving up or not. Keep doing what you're doing in supporting her, you're doing great.

I see that you bought a bulb. Great! I bought mine on Amazon recently.
WUHOSTAM 4.5 out of 5 stars 470 Reviews Wuhostam 2 Pack Infrared Ceramic Heat Lamp,Black Reptile Emitter Bulb for Pet Coop Heater Chicken Lizard Turtle Brooder Aquarium Snake, No Harm No Light, ETL Listed In the past I went to the pet shop. They last forever. Did you buy the dome to go with it? It directs the heat so it isn’t lost. In 26 years of owning my snake, one of the lamps is still going strong!
I hope you are doing well! Keep watching for now. I don’t believe you can do more. And don’t forget that she has to come out to eat. Hugs😍

Can you post a picture of your heat bulb @maryann so we can see what you have? My vet recommended that I get one to have on hand for emergency medical care of my budgies.

Great - thank you! I'm looking on Amazon and see something very much like it. I had used an electric heating pad that's sold for baby chicks to keep Buddy warm when he had his respiratory infection. It was OK but I think a heat lamp might be better for future use.
