It all seems to be going well hitman. Are you planning on keeping the chick? Definitely moulding this one to be my minion 😂.... Yeah keeping all my birds. I just saw the parents mating again is this a good or bad thing?

I wouldn’t see it as good vs bad. Just normal. I’m happy that everything seems to be going well. I’d love to see pics when the time is right. 😍. I do know with cockatiels both parents do the feeding. I don’t know with budgies. Keep up the good work!

Regarding mum and dad mating - just to forewarn a hen will breed until it kills her, it's like their sole ambition. Also, if she lays another clutch of eggs she may attack the current chick as they usually try to kill them to make way for the next clutch.
There is also the worry of the drain of laying eggs and raising chicks has on the energy and reserves of the hen. It seriously depletes them.
Ways to discourage is to separate mum and dad to stop the mating. Dad stays to feed baby, mum moves to new cage. Or keeping them together but rearranging the cage (where the perches are, toys etc etc) anything that will take their attention off mating.
I think most breeders only let a hen have a maximum of 3 clutches, and not all after each other, but with time in between to rebuild their health.

I don't think the hen wants another clutch she has got the male to leave her alone a few times now. I read you have to wait a year before breeding again. This wasn't intentional but maybe next time I have another bonded pair. The boys an exhibition bird and the girl is a normal budgie maybe slightly bigger. Good colours on those ones too

Sorry I must have accidentally cleared my notifications never seen your message.... Yeah the little chick is still doing well. I just noticed the baby having a little look outside the nesting box must be curious as to what all the noise is with the other birds in the background. It looks as though it will be yellow like the mum and dad but uncertain of the back feathers. I'm getting some kaytee exact hand formula so I can feed the chick I heard this can help with taming them from an early age

Please let the parents feed the chick. This allows the chick to strengthen its immune system through the parents' feeding. You can handle them when you clean out the nest box and weigh them without going through the feeding rigmarole.

Agree with Hezz. My heart went in my mouth when I read you were going to hand feed, as it's not necessary.
Remember when the chick can eat for itself you can offer millet or some other treat in your hand to tame them etc. I've tamed birds this way in the past.

I found the little chick at the bottom of the cage this morning. He must be up for exploring. As I held the chick in my hand the dad started to feed him. Was nice to see but I hope the wee guys not going to try n jump out when I'm not there
