Hello! I live in East Ireland and at the end of September (yes, its a long way away, but I like to plan ahead,) I will hopefully be getting my third budgie. I'd really like an Exhibition-Type budgie. I might not go to shows or anything, but I really like them. I've been scouring the internet for two days now and can't find anyone selling them! I was looking at the Exhibition Budgerigars Society Ireland to try and see if there was any breeders willing to sell, but no! I don't know anyone personally with Exhibition Budgies either. I'd be willing to get a shipment but it has to be from a very good company with good shipping conditions in West England, Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland. I don't want budgies having to suffer in that trip for more than that time. I have two male regular budgies too - they'll be about a year and a half in September. They'll be in a macaw sized cage with adequate bar spacing, and lots of out-of-cage time too. I only have a few requirements. - Budgie must be male.
- Under 2 1/2 years old.
- Hand raised (so when I get him he'll be hopefully tame.)
- Under €80 (is this unrealistic? it doesn't have to be a prize breeding budgie - just an exhibition budgie type. I've seen ones for as little as £10 on Gumtree.)
- Used to being handled (petted, stepping up etc.)
From what i've heard they don't need any special care compared to normal-type budgies. So does anyone know how I can get one? Grateful for any advice or help. ~DuskyConure

I assume Charlie is the one in your profile picture? I have relatives in Leicester that might be willing to receive a packadged budgie, then give it a short break then send it across the water to my other relatives who live on the coast of east ireland.... then I can drive 30mins to pick him up.... It's a big if, and not including whether he'll help me or not. But we might only be going to like 1 show for a laugh, so it doesn't have to be a purebred opaline albino saddleback or anything. Does he have a website or anything like that so I can contact him in late september/early october?
I'd prefer to receive a shipment of one or two eggs - as they are not live budgies and wouldn't know whats going on, but my mum said something about me not ready to raise a creature because i'll only be 12 then??? I don't agree with that lol.
Thanks so much. Whether Charlie is the one in your profile picture or not, they sound very cute!!

Yes that is Charlie in the picture. The breeder doesn’t have a website. Let me have a word with him, but I think he might agree with your mum. Sorry I know you won’t want to hear that, but you have to think of the budgie, and I am certain he wouldn’t send eggs. Is there a particular reason that you want a show budgie if you don’t want to show it? When we chose Charlie it was just because we fell in love with him straight away, I would never want to show him , he is just a pet.

Yes.
The reason is - they are larger than regular budgies, more likely to want to cuddle, I really like the poofs on the head, I prefer the docile temperment to a regular budgies, and because I go on vacation a lot it would be easier because i've heard in a lot of places that show budgies are easier to transport.
And now that I think about it - yes, I am too young to raise an animal.

Forgot to say, I love the little vidio clip you have put on, really cute ! ...... yes Charlie does like to blow the feathers on his head, but he isn’t big, and he definitely isn’t docile. He doesn’t like a cuddle either. Good that you are having another think about getting a budgie just yet because they don’t always turn out to be just as you want them to be.. Good luck with your drawings, do you have one you could show us?

Oh yeah! I've being doing a few paintings, one of my friend's budgies and two of just some show budgies. (I don't really like the head on the blue one here, I messed it up ) And yes, not all Show Budgies would be docile & cuddly, but I'm only looking for one like that, and I would be perfectly fine with one not cuddly and not liking other people, as long as it was hand raised and trusted me (i wiould probably have to work on that a bit, but it already knows how to step up and stuff so it would be easier.) Thanks! I wish the video clip was mine haha. One day, I hope to teach my budgies as many tricks as I can and do something like this (only if they are comfortable with it, and only in front of a few people haha;) Like this (it's so funny omg)And thanks for everything!

ladybird, perhaps your breeder might know of some in Ireland? Someone who has a bird or two that hasn't made the Exhibition grade?

I could ask him hezz, just a little worried that dusky is a little young to look after a budgie especially as his mother seems against it. I am sure he is going to make a wonderful owner if he can wait awhile. Maybe if he could have a chat with a breeder in Ireland and go and visit , he could learn a lot... So yes I will contact the breeder and ask if he knows of anyone .After all, good breeders only want the best for their birds.

By the time I would get this budgie would be when i've had my two for a year. Even if I don't have that much first-hand experience i've done a lot of research and will be even more knowlegable by the end of this year. Also - my mother isn't really against me getting budgies, just more than three would be too much (for me as well!) Thank you I promise to any breeder I am going to treat their budgies like kings, even if they don't like me and bite or anything haha. Since I am young and don't have to pay bills/and I am homeschooled so home most of the day most of the week I will be able to have more money to buy toys, treats and food, so that's a bonus, with my parents helping as well. I really, really do want to go and chat to a budgie breeder but I can't find contact info anywhere. But if all goes well, I am going to ThinkParrots 2020 in UK, and probably the Exhibition Budgerigar Society meetup in August (which is like 15min away from my house.) Hopefully I will learn a lot from there :DDDD

Dusky have you got two budgies now? If you have, pictures would be lovely 😃 blumuffin has made quite a few threads regarding his/her budgies, Muffin and Mango, looking for relevant advice, so not a complete novice at budgie-keeping.

I would have loved to have known about somewhere like this when I was Dusky’s age and had my first bird. Good on you for looking for information and asking questions.
