Mabel has not been great recently. The vet said last year she suspected a liver or kidney issue. Her beak now has to be trimmed, she doesn't have the tell-tale big tummy of liver disease, but she does have droppings that are huge and watery and her little feet are red hot, so I think it's her kidneys. I've been looking on here, and on Google, to find if there is anything I can get to help her? I know milk thistle helps with liver but has anyone dealt with kidney issues in their bird? Did you find anything that helped. I had been putting guardian angel in her water but just read it a supplement like this could cause extra stress to the kidneys. As a side note it was Mabel's birthday yesterday (along with Ralph and Agatha), she was 6

I'm sorry to hear that Mabel isn't too well. It does sound like it's a problem with her kidneys. Jane got some special food for Squawk but I'm not sure if that was for his liver or kidneys, as I think he had problems with both. In humans with kidney disease potassium and phosphorus can be a problem and may need to be limited.
I hope you can come up with something that helps her.

Thanks criswell. Yes, I'm convinced now that it's her kidneys. I had suspected liver but not anymore. I can find very little on what i should or shouldn't be feeding her.

Poor Mabel, but happy birthday to her.
I hope that your vet or the article Criswell posted can help.
I have had birds with liver but not kidney issues.

Kidney disease isn't something that I've had to deal with either, thankfully. The article from Beauty of Birds that criswell has linked to has some very good information in it, and some food choices that may be of help to Mabel. Happy birthday to Mabel , Ralph and Agatha.

Criswell thank you! This is really helpful. Yes, I am going to contact the avian vet tomorrow when they are back open, see if she has any advice.

I think I'm losing her. She's been laying on the bottom. I've held her for a while, and I've put a towel on the bottom of the cage for comfort, and I've even put a nest box in full of straw with the end open incase she wants to hide in there. She has. She's laying in there. I don't think she will make it through the night. If only she knew how special she was to me.

I’m so sorry for what you are going through. If you can’t be with her the entire time, can you leave some soothing music on? Very softly, of course. Big hugs to you. 😢

I have hardly slept, just checked and she is sat next to Tom on the swing. God bless her. I had to take a deep breath before I walked in to check on her this morning.
