I just had a message from the vets. The lovely new veterinary hospital where the avian vet is based has flooded. I feel so sad for them as it's such a wonderful facility. They contacted me as we have an appointment booked for Dean Stockwell on Wednesday. The message said to ring them during the week. I'll give them a ring tomorrow to find out what is happening. They will likely move appointments to one of their other practices but since it's not urgent I'll happily reschedule.
This is the part of town where the vets is. If you look in the middle of the picture you can see a roof of something almost submerged.
I've also discovered that we are in a medium risk area even though we're a mile away from the river, but it's very flat round here. The River Taff flows through the park in town and that is flooded. The last update was that river levels have stabalised.

It's been so sad watching it on the news, so many places flooded, homes and businesses.

Thanks both. I think we're safe here. It was a bit scary realising we were at medium risk but it's quite useful that there is a very large park around the river in town that acts as a flood plain. I've made sure my phone numbers are registered with Floodline so I will get an alert if the situation becomes worse. I'm glad it's stopped raining now. Last update at 12.30 was that the river level is falling.
Footage from Pontypridd is terrible. I feel so bad for people living there.

Like the fires that happen here, floods can be so devastating with the loss of families personal items, danger to the health of those effected and the economic costs to rebuild/repair. I hope your vet's clinic gets back up soon and am glad you are safe. Sending wishes for all those effected to recover quickly.

Thanks tweetiepiesmom. I expect they will temporarily move the avian vet to another one of their sites. I hope they were able to move a lot of the equipment upstairs. The avian clinic is upstairs with cats and dogs downstairs so hopefully they had enough warning to move things upstairs, and to evacuate the patients. The Royal Mail depot next door must have flooded as well. The water levels have gone down enough in the main shopping area in Pontypridd so they have already started the clean up. I think it took a lot of people by surprise as I don't think such bad flooding was expected. A month's worth of rain fell in one night which is incredible.

Oh crumbs, THAT's the vet you go to, criswell? Or maybe there's another vets near a post office depot. If it's where I think it is, that's a 15 minute walk from me.

I’m happy to hear the worst seems to be over. Clean up always reveals more. I live in a hurricane state. (Florida,USA) very scary! I hope all is well. Thinking of you all 💕

@sillycat84 The vet Hospital is up past Radyr, in Gwaelod y Garth, so I think it's a different one. They have a practice in Whitchurch too so they maybe able to move the avian vet there. My dad who lives in Ireland saw Cardiff on the news so sent a message to check we were ok.
Thanks maryann I'm so glad we don't get hurricanes here. That would be far too scary.

Glad to hear that the flood water is receding, criswell. Too bad about the vet clinic.

I spoke to the vets. They're seeing urgent cases at other branches today. They were having a meeting to decided the plan for the next few weeks.
The flood came up very suddenly so they didn't have a chance to save much from the ground floor. The CT scanner and hydrotherapy equipment is ruined, and all their computers.
Most importantly though all the patients were evacuated safely with the help of the fire brigade, thank goodness.
They've asked me to phone again on Wednesday when they'll have a better idea where the avian vet will be. Luckily it's not urgent that I see him. It was only handy to take Dean Stockwell this week as it's half term and we're both of work.

I’m so sorry the equipment was ruined! That’s very expensive! But the pets are safe and that’s so important! How are you and yours? This is such a difficult time. Community comes together. Still thinking of you!💕😘
