I noticed over the past couple of mornings that Tweetie Pie's droppings have been watery and green. His night time droppings are normal as are the droppings during the day. I haven't changed his food - he gets a seed mixture that has dried fruits and vegetables in it. Could he be eating those fruits and vegetables in the morning which is causing the change in his droppings? Is there something else going on? I keep telling him that he is not allowed to get sick.

I just looked again and he's had a few green watery droppings today, more are normal than watery. Is he getting sick? He's singing and behaving normal.

I hope Tweetie Pie is ok. It is so hard to know when they are sick or not. I didn't really believe quite how well they hide things until I found out how ill Randolph Carter was. I feel even less confident about knowing how my birds are doing than before. Could you email or call your vet for advice? Hopefully it's nothing, but it might be worth asking just to be sure.

I can call her tomorrow. Tweetie Pie is not tame at all. I think the only way to catch him will be dropping a tea towel over him and grabbing him. Heaven help us both if he gets loose. I just dread the thought of catching him but if I need to, I will. I'm hoping its just a seasonal thing. The last week has been unseasonably hot here. As I type this, he's on his perch just chattering away at himself.

This is what his droppings looked like first thing this morning. And later this afternoon.

The afternoon ones look great. Budgies do have more water in their droppings if they are frightened, stressed or anxious. Criswell used to have very watery droppings if he was left alone for longer than he liked. So it could be related to that. Dexter's droppings often have more water with them overnight than during the day, especially if he's not had a good night sleep. It must just be that Tweetie Pie is a bit stressed in he mornings. Does he call out a lot around the time that his droppings are like that?
When you speak to the vet ask to email her the pictures and I'm sure she'll get some idea of what is going on. Hopefully you won't need to catch him.

If it has been hot, he may have been drinking more and not eating as much. If you really are concerned though, only a vet visit will put your mind at rest.

I will call the vet tomorrow. Tweetie Pie may be stressed because he's been calling out to Buddy and Buddy answers but Tweetie Pie can't see him because Buddy is still in quarantine at the far end of the room - no direct line of sight. Buddy starts the calling in the morning. Sometimes Tweetie Pie jumps on the front of his cage and crawls around when Buddy calls out.

The vet basically said what both Hezz and criswell said. He may be just stressed because Buddy is in the house and calling but Tweetie Pie can't see him and play with him. Buddy tends to call out mid-evening (8-9:00pm) which interrupts Tweetie Pie's sleeping time. Sometimes Tweetie Pie answers and sometimes he doesn't. She says to keep an eye on it and if the droppings get watery more often, then bring him in. Today they look all normal.

That's great news. It's good that you noticed that his droppings were different and I'm glad that the vet doesn't think it's anything to worry about

How is Tweetie Pie now? are the droppings any better?

Thanks Marianne Marlow for asking. Every once in a while he'll have a watery dropping and its usually first thing in the morning and typically I can identify a stress that he's had. This morning a couple droppings were watery - good the rest of the day. I left to go to dinner yesterday evening with a friend. It was still light out - too early to cover him. I came home after dark and he was on his sleeping perch and not looking happy. I covered him for the night. He really doesn't like that. He MUST be covered at sunset! I try to keep up with his routine but sometimes I can't.

I'm glad Tweetie Pie is doing well. Budgies do like things the way they like them. But quite rightly you have human things to do too which don't always fit in with a budgie's plans.
Criswell was especially set in his ways and would start calling because he wanted to go to bed at the same time every evening meaning we'd have to leave the room so he could go to sleep. Dexter inherited the routine and passed in on to Randolph Carter, but since Dean Stockwell came along he's shaken things up and they don't insist on going to be a set time. Now they know it's nearly bedtime when I turn off some of the lights, and I have 5 to 10 minutes to get them covered up before they start complaining. Then they have their few minutes of silliness over who gets which swing while I'm putting the cover on and sometimes for a few minutes afterwards before they settle down to sleep.
Maybe Tweetie Pie will be a bit more flexible once Buddy moves in with him.

Buddy is much more flexible criswell. He climbs up to his bedtime perch (neither Buddy or Tweetie Pie use their swings) sometime during the evening and he'll sit there quite content until I cover him. He does like a night light and a gap in his cover. If I don't do that he'll flap his wings and squawk until I fix it. In the morning he climbs down and feeds himself. If I haven't given him fresh food and seeds by 9am he starts making a fuss. It will be interesting when I put them together.

I bet Tweetie Pie will become more relaxed about things when Buddy moves in.
