hi everyone, Sky my french moult Budgie has lived happily with my other 4 budgies for the past year or so. Recently though there has been lots of pecking and biting and he keeps falling from his perch. He always gets back up again but for his own safety I am considering giving him a different cage. I currently have 2 piano 6’s for my birds but I think they are too tall and I am constantly frightened of him falling from a height and injuring himself. I am looking at getting a wide cage without much height. I could possibly get him a friend as he is a very social bird but then I worry about him being bullied again. My auntie has a solo hen who she says has a sweet nature so I may consider trying her with Sky to see how they get on. Sky has seen a specialist vet and unfortunately there isn’t much we can do with regards to his feathers except keeping him comfortable and bathing any sore patches. Sky is quite a noisy bird without company and is known to call to the flock if he is alone so I’m not sure housing him alone will be an option. Any opinions welcome

He should be able to live beside the others but in his own bachelor pad, or with his lovely natured possible girl friend if that is an option. I have a disabled hen who has her own cage set up beside the boy's cage. They go and visit her very regularly ... as in almost all the time ... so while she is kept separate for her own good, she isn't lacking in company. One of the boys will feed her through the bars quite often.

Thank you Hezz! Going to go with a wide cage without much height and have it on a table next to the flock. Just been to see my auntie’s hen and I think it’s a boy! So not sure if i will be taking him or not. If I do he could join the flock.

Sorry, I can't see whether this bird is hen or not and the photo won't enlarge for me. On a table next to the others should work for your FM boy. And there is no reason why he can't still have out of cage time, unless he insists on trying to fly and may hurt himself.

Much better, and you are correct - this is a boy.
