I went to Morrison's yesterday and an elderly gentleman asked me where he would get hand sanitiser, I took him to the section, all SOLD OUT
Handwash pumps all SOLD OUT.
The girl at the checkout said they had a big delivery of both that morning and they were all gone, she said toilet roll and pasta were exactly the same, they couldn't keep them on the shelves.
Is it me, or has everyone gone bonkers. SHOULD WE PANIC 😮😮

This will be quite a controversial subject so as a forum we must tread with care!
Sadly we are informed by the media and this is not always...accurate.
The media warned us to prepare by buying extra provisions. But because everyone has, it is now going to look like panic and the media will advertise it as such for the sensationalism.
Plus if you have a family of 5, extra provisions can be quite extensive!
Personally I think we should be concerned, but be aware that not all of what we hear is believable.

Apologies Sam, shall I remove the post?
I don't mean to imply that my views are right and others wrong, I just wondered what everyone thought.

No not at all JB! As long as everyone is considerate, it can be discussed after all it is quite a worry Especially for people in these high risk categories too as I know a lot of people on here are

If you dig deeper into the figures, it appears that more people die from flu than any of these figures get even close to. Thats not to say it isn't worrying of course it is and the fact that there is no vaccine to protect the vunerable but I do think it is being blown out of all proportion by the media.

I’m not back at work yet, but my office is mostly now working at home. Unfortunately there are so many who could have the virus, travelling in to work, on London transport, that cannot afford to not work or that cannot work from home.
What I do think is bad, we have been slow to order more products in, by that I mean the supermarkets. They knew this was coming. I managed to get onto the This Morning phone in last week on this.
It’s being hyped but is that so bad I wonder, will it just make people take more hygiene care. The stores, not all, have also been rationing some products.
My niece works for NHS in the mental sector, they’ve been given nothing. No sanitiser, not enough soap and they have people coming in for appointments.
I think people are stockpiling in case of self isolation, but the amount by which they are.....
I do think the elderly and those with underlying conditions need to be helped as half probably are too scared to go out.
Had I not had sepsis, I think I wouldn’t be as I am in my thoughts, but it does worry me.
Sorry for the lengthy ramble.

For anyone wanting to make their own hand sanitiser, use 2/3rds 99% rubbing alcohol (or surgical spirit) to 1/3rd aloe vera gel - both available on Amazon. Of course handwashing with soap and water is best but sanitiser is great when you're out and about.

Well I should be sitting on a plane on the way to a cruise to the Far East, Malaysia, Bangkok, Cambodia, Vietnam and Singapore. All the ports are shutting to cruise ships whether they have the virus or not, due to them having to staff ports with medical staff or screening and they are staffing their own hospitals first. This is what they should be doing. I would rather be here where I know the medical care is good and at least I am in my own home with all my craft stuff. I had an interview on the local radio yesterday and as I said it is only a holiday, money will be refunded, except Birmingham Airport who are not refunding any body, where other airports are. We can go next year, at least we are safe and I have 7 bottles of hand sanitiser and 7 packs of wipes as I have bee buying them over the last few weeks to take with us. There was an article on facebook showing an extract from a book published in 1981 that said this would happen in 2020 and it was called WUHAN 400 because that's where this virus was being manufactured. Makes you think. I will have to keep away from my neighbour and some of my craft ladies are in the 80's and in relatively good health but worried about it. I do think we should worry and I do think the Media are making things worse. Bad news sells papers and that is all they care about. I have a friend who works for a national newspaper and being told not to print certain things that would help to calm things down. Unfortunately, some people believe everything they read in the paper. Who do we believe, no one is telling the whole truth. Well that's my opinion from someone who should be sitting on a plane drinking gin and tonics and was looking forward to some really good shopping in Vietnam and Bangkok

Its the same for us here jellybean , no loo roll, kitchen roll, liquid hand soap, hand gel or cleaning products, the dried food, pasta and the like are low too. When i did a shop the other day there were 4 loo rolls on the shelf, large supermarket, i could have grabbed all 4 but then i thought, no this is a knock on effect of panic buying so i just got one each for us and mum as i usually would. At the end of the day iv'e got plenty of newspapers, the buds will have to be rationed As samwiseg said if a family of 4 or so get lock down i guess it's pretty essential to have plenty of loo roll. Agree with Helen, people, especially the elderly die with flu every year. My big worry is my mum, if i catch it i can't help her

I'm not sure what to believe. I think there is an element of scaremongering, but also for people who are in the risk category I think this is really serious. I'm not in a risk category but if I was I think I'd be staying in a bit more.
I work at a hospital and I always wash - and I mean scrub - my hands before and after every patient. At the moment my hands are like sandpaper and red raw regardless of how much moisturiser I put on them. I'm constantly washing and sanitising my hands, more than needed. What does cause me alarm is the amount of people who I meet who will happily cough, splutter and sneeze everywhere without using a tissue to try to catch the germs. I have started telling them now whether they are embarrassed or not to use tissues and why it's important.

I attended a hospital appointment yesterday with my OH, we sat in a busy waiting area, and it took 70 minutes before he was called for an x-ray.
You just don't know who you have come into contact with.
The surgeon he saw (he's to have a new knee) said there was a 6 months waiting list, which could be put back even further because of coronavirus.
