We've just had the same experience as your daughter helenmat . Our local small supermarket was fairly well stocked today but since we had to go out to buy hay we popped into a big Tesco store and it was so empty - hardly any fruit or veg, cereal, frozen food. Most food was in short supply. Luckily we didn't need much. We called into Asda on the way home and the situation was the same there too. It felt really sinister in both supermarkets - quite apocalyptic, like we were in a sci-fi film. All the shoppers were quite subdued and everyone was quiet. It felt more like the crisis we are facing was food shortage rather than a virus. Lots of events are being cancelled here too tweetiepiesmom - concerts, sports matches. The Queen has cancelled all her engagements. I'm glad you have you have Buddy and Tweetie Pie. I'm enjoying the noise my boys are making too. It's hard to feel too anxious with them around when their songs are chirps are so happy.

It’s gotten crazy. I thought some of the supermarkets were rationing some stuff, but it’s madness they’re running out of loads of fresh, as they don’t last that long. Tinned, dry pasta I get, I do not agree with it
As for the hand sanitisers... that’s another thing

I guess people are preparing in case we go in to lock down like Italy, or maybe they are just going to leave the house for the next few weeks even if they are allowed to. I heard someone speaking from Italy on the radio and although lock down does mean they are supposed to stay in their homes they are allowed to leave their houses for 4 reasons, one of which is to buy food. Other include to go to work if essential, to get medical attention, and I can't remember what the 4th one was. Unless people choose to, we are not going to be locked in our houses for the next few weeks. I'm concerned that the advice is now to just stay at home if you think you have the virus and that testing is not being offered. Even if medical treatment isn't needed testing is important so people can be cleared to go back to work, or volunteer to help people in other ways if their place of work is closed. It would be much safer that way as some people may have just had a cold or flu and get back out in to the world only to catch and spread the virus further. Two of our friends in London have isolated themselves because one has symptoms but he can't get tested. The WHO is calling for every suspected case to be tested which does seem like a sensible precaution. www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/13/who-urges-countries-to-track-and-trace-every-covid-19-case

Here is Sheffield there is a drive up to testing pod. You go and they test you through the window of your car. Then you go home and isolate and they send you the results.

I then drove from Morrison's to Aldi to see if I could get handwash, that place is absolute nuts, trolleys are overflowing.

I know of a couple that have had to self isolate because they were exposed to someone that had come back from Italy. It's totally mad out there, our asda has run out of everything according to my husband (I have not been outside for a week) We're going to go over to asda shortly and take a look. We got a big delivery of baby wipes and hopefully have enough nappies. Thankfully Eve is being weaned off formula and is starting to eat real food as I'm told that people have panic bought baby food/formula too. I bet the gluten free aisle has not suffered as a lot of it isn't palatable enough (I'm a coeliac)

I can actually understand people not wanting to run out of toilet rolls, that would just be awful! I cannot see why shops though, haven't rationed certain items, just so that everyone can have a share so to speak. Deliveries will replace in the short term. Those who are self isolating really only have to have supplies for a week, so we are told, so to bulk buy is just plain rediculous and of course selfish.
Everyone keep clean and keep safe.

A lot of shops are rationing now Shirls , but unfortunately its a bit too late. The selfish people have already taken everything. Im just making some soup from leftovers. I shall freeze it.

Everyone seemed to be shopping responsibly when we were out last night. I didn't see anyone making multiple purchases. We only bought things that we really needed and I still felt a bit bad about that when there wasn't much left on the shelf. It was really unnerving seeing the shops so empty.

I've just got off the phone with my mum. My niece is in isolation because she has a fever. She works in a care home for people with learning difficulties so phoned them to tell them. She's not feeling too unwell at the moment. None of my other family members have seen her recently as she doesn't live in the same town as any other family members.

What's this all about a virus then, can't say I've heard about it. Self isolation! they should try a few years of it, then see how they get on. I think it is all made worse by the media. It is serious that poeple are dying with it, but other than that ist is no worse than what we have gone through in the past.

Here in Los Angeles helenmat they will be setting up the drive through testing stations this weekend. They will be set up in the parking lots of some of the drug stores. My local stores have low supplies on some things like bottled water (don't understand that, our water supply is safe) but the shelves are being replenished. I heard this morning on the news that one grocery store in the LA area had a long line before it opened and they were letting 25 people in at a time. The reporter interviewed people and asked what they were buying. About half the people had no shopping list - they just felt the need to come buy something - so panic buying. I can't help but think that when this all settles down people are going to see that they've got all this extra stuff that they'll take months to use. I hope criswell that your niece will recover quickly. Even a cold can make you feel miserable. Everyday we hear more entertainment places are closing down. Restaurants are removing tables to maintain the 6 foot recommended distance between people. Churches are cancelling services. Since many TV shows are taped here in LA, those that normally have a live audience have announced that they will no longer have a live audience. Pretty soon people are going to start going stir crazy with nothing to do except stay home. Let's see what the "crazy Americans" do about that!

Thanks tweetiepiesmom . I just had a chat with her on facebook and she's not feeling too bad at the moment. She's only 20 hopefully she'll be feeling better quickly. We have drive through testing centres in the UK too and intially people were asked to ring an emergency number if they had symmptoms and they would be given an appointment for testing at the nearest one. The advice has now changed to ask people only to used the emergency number if they cannot cope with the symptoms at home, if they are getting worse or if they are not better after 7 days. So most people in the UK are not going to be tested. There have been so many stories in the news today about empty shops. My mum's small local supermarket was quite well stocked still today. Panic buying seems to have been more prevalent in the larger supermarkets maybe because people drive to them.

I just went to M&S. they have lots of normal stuff including loo roll
See now we couldn’t go to the US if we wanted to.
My great nephew has a temperature, but too early to know if one those things. He’s only 2 so could be a few things. His elder sister was heartbroken as she was due to go to a party but you can’t take the chance.
I hope everyone who has anything feels better soon
Meanwhile China have said over 70% of those who had it, are ok now
All I can say is AGH

Had a nice e-mail this morning from the CEO of Sainsbury's. Assuring that they were ordering more supplies and replenishing everything that had completely emptied the shelves. He also advised, which is common sense to most people, and I emphasise most sensible people to just buy what you need and don't overstock!
I thought that was pretty good to get a personalised e-mail. Wonder if Asda, Morrisons, Tescos etc. will do the same??
