That is a very good response. Surely people will have to stop buying too much at some point.

I have a storage problem so couldn't buy too much even if I wanted to!!! Same here plus I haven’t got the money to stockpile even if I wanted to, which I don’t as it’s not community minded. I understand why people are doing it as all this media coverage is scaring people witless but it’s very selfish and by leaving others short it will just make matters worse in the long run.

I've just been talking to my mum and step-dad (both in their 70s) about the possibility they will be isolated for 4 months if the government does put that part of their plan into action. She was quite relaxed about it and has been talking about all the things she can get done, like the cross-stitch and tapestry kits that I've made for her, and gardening when the weather gets warmer. She is more worried about how it will affect her brothers, both of whom like to be out and about. One of them still works as a gardener even though he's in his 70s. And she has friends that hardly spend any time at home who will find it very difficult.

Also there are people still working in their 70s like your uncle so there’s money worries for some as (not just older people either) well as work colleagues that will have to cover for them in some cases. It’s not going to be easy.

It really isn't going to be easy. The Government has to make sure that no one suffers financial hardship as a result. Mortgage and rent payments need to be suspended for anyone who's place of work is closed.
I've just had a student round for a maths lesson and her brother picked her up. He's fresh food manager at an Asda store. They are putting out stock as fast as they can get it and everything is selling before the next delivery comes in. Their suppliers have run out of fresh produce and they are now waiting for it to come straight from the field so they can deliver to stores. He has the weekend off but he's heard from colleagues that there were about 1000 people queuing outside their store this morning, and very little for them to buy. While he was waiting for his sister he went to the gym which is next to Costco and there were people wheeling out trolleys full of toilet roll and bread. The toilet roll will keep but bread is only going to keep for a few days. Maybe everyone has been out buying freezers so they can freeze the bread. The current problem with food supply is far more worrying than the virus.

I reckon some are shop owners too
Someone on our local neighbourhood website, is offering to get shopping and deliver to the elderly. I do hope, that community picks up in this scenario. There’s an old lady in the flat below me, luckily her daughter is around. If that changes I said I can add things to my online shop if needed. She also has carers.
But yes, so many are on their own and isolation will be so hard in terms of not only supplies, but company too.
I wonder if something like a phone service is set up to just chat and allay their fears

Not seen any panic buying where we live in the north west, Tesco had plenty of everything on Friday when we went. I am supposed to be going to see my family in Dubai next week, ( first time abroad for ten years) , I am beyond dissapointed because it doesn’t look like happening ........Instead we could soon be confined to the house....I am 75 and hubby in his eighties.. Trying not to get too depressed about the whole thing.......hard isn’t it.

I read an article the other day criswell, that going to the gym was also risky because of the sweat and germs transmitted from the machines. The knock on effect from this will be catastrophic.

The mayor of Los Angeles came on the news and made a similar announcement samwiseg as your MP. We have also had a couple of people offer to shop for elderly people. I am also a bit concerned about going stir crazy since I live alone and don't have family around. Parks and everything are closing down. The government is recommending that people only go out for groceries. Hang in there, this will pass. We are being told that symptoms show up anywhere from 5 to 11 days after exposure. I wonder if once you've had the virus does your body make anti-bodies against it so you'll have immunity?

I think being isolated is going to be so hard for so many. For those who have the internet, can use it, thank goodness for things like Skype, Facetime etc. The only kind of place I think that will really benefit are the network providers, online streaming companies like Netflix etc
My nephew in law also knows of a company who had their delivery of hand gels taken for government use. Maybe Boris would like to explain that one,
