Hi all new to this forum. Any advice greatly appreciated. Charlie my budgie has bird flu he has been on antibiotics for 7 wks now. He is no better. Vet says its definetly that nothing else. His breathing is poor he is squeking all the time like wheezing. He isnt chirping anymore. Fully eating drinking and pooping if little sloppy. He plays he cuddles but he gets weak and falls off his perch. He has started to spend a lot of time on the side of his cage rather than the perches.i dont know what to do. My husband wants to take him to specialist vet one hr drive away but i dont think he is well enough and he hates going in the car. Please help.?

If his breathing is laboured maybe clinging to the cage bars rather than perching is helping his breathing.
If there has been no improvement in 7 weeks I'd be inclined to take him to another vet for a second opinion, preferably an AVIAN vet.
See what others say.

Sounds like you need another opinion ... in my opinion. Bird flu is a virus, like all flues are, and antibiotics do not treat viruses, only secondary infections that may occur due to a compromised immune system. Or is he on a anti-viral drug?
I do wonder how much of what you describe is due to his illness and how much to his grand old age. I'd be guessing a fair dose of both.
To make him more comfortable in the cage lower all perches and feed pots, pad the bottom of the cage with old sheets or towels so that he doesn't hurt himself if he falls, provide easy means for him to climb back up such as strategically placed ladders.

We saw avian vet on weds. He prodded poked and injected Charlie. xrays everything looking for growths ect. Poor charlie looked dreadful when i fetched him back. Stayed up all night nursing him by last night he looked a little better but sadly passed this morning. Im devastated and im sure ive never cried this much in my life. 😢😢
