Oh it really looks so lovely, samwiseg. The colours and fragrance will be a knockout combination this summer.

Loving your garden samwiseg! I love hostas but don't have any yet. Maybe I'll have to see if they'll thrive in my front flower bed.

Thank you! Its getting there ariella still got to fill it, we are trying to fill the spaces so it will all knit together...well that's the plan anyway! As long as the hostas go in a relatively moist shady area tweetiepiesmom they'll be fine. If they are put in full sun they will bleach (apparently.) Plus some varieties are supposedly slug resistant but I still cooked up some garlic water just in case! (Much to the annoyance of the OH)

I love hostas, but you have to watch out for the slugs and snails as they are definitely attracted to them. I haven’t seen slug-resistant ones samwiseg. Must keep an eye out.

You know how to get rid of slugs? Share your beer with them! Put a little beer in a jar top and put it beside the hostas. They'll be attracted to it and die. Is that where the expression "have a slug of beer" came from?

Is that where the expression "have a slug of beer" came from? I’ve read that before but never tried it. I think one of the dogs would probably get there first! Ive used crushed up eggshells, orange peel and copper tape around potted hostas but nothing seems to be slug proof.

I got stuff from the garden centre last year, it was a bit whiffy but worked. I’ll try to find the name

Wow suesbird, it looks so pretty already in your garden. I’ve got clematis envy as I’m so impatient for mine to grow and cover the pergola.

Thank you, Its a wrought iron statue. When our workman were working on a job they had a real peacock that kept creeping up on them, so they named it Geoffrey after my husband, as my husband, apparently, used to turn up on site unannounced. So when we saw it at a market, we had to buy him and called him Geoffrey.

I think Geoffrey is a keeper. . Now, important question: what time is gin-o’clock? (My weekend has started!)

Ariella it has taken about 20 years to get this high. Argh - don’t tell me that! I envisage a wonderful covered pergola. We’re almost 3 years in and although all plants have reached the top and started to spread along the sides, it’s a slow process.
