I've had to make the hard decision to have my special Mabel pts tomorrow at 6.30pm.
I have been back and forth too many time to remember with the should I shouldn't I, and for months now. I think she is ready, I think she is suffering.
I still feel it's her kidneys, and I feel she's in the latter stages.
My heart is breaking.
Mabel is so different from the others and I just can't do this by myself. I wanted to take her this afternoon but have no one who can accompany me, so tomorrow it is.

I'm so sorry clt80 , it's a horrible decision to have to make but you know when the time is right. The greatest gift we can give our beloved pets is to know when to end their suffering. My thoughts will be with you, sending a virtual hug.

I was off work this afternoon and as it was sunny I tried to tidy the back garden up. Thought it'd help clear my mind a bit.
I brought Tom and Mabels cage downstairs to the kitchen. She could hear the others outside. At one point I brought her outside onto a table and put the cage in the sun next to the aviary as it was sheltered and warm. She was up on the swing and she did her tweet, it has been so long since I had heard her voice properly. Ron came over to see her, felt my heartstrings pull.
So, then this evening I have put them on the kitchen table and she has been preening and fussing about then went to sleep on the swing on one leg.
I am now in self doubt. Am I doing the right thing. I know that's a rhetorical question: just thinking out aloud. She hasn't been in the aviary for months and although she needs to be inside as she is ill, what if maybe depression or a longing to be back outside with the flock has affected her. What if I pts thinking she's in the final stages of kidney issues and it's actually boredom or something that I can do something about and they kidneys are still coping?

What a dilemma. I can totally understand where you’re coming from. The fact she slept ion one foot, do they do that if they’re not well or is it when they feel safe/happy
Sorry, I don’t know what to suggest, perhaps see how she is in the morning?

Hmm, she's a tricky one. She went to sleep on one leg, they don't normally do that when they're really weak.
Maybe she needs to see the others a bit more, but from the comfort of her own cage?

If her kidney(s) is hurting her, it could be affecting the nerves in her leg, hence sleeping on one leg, but you should easily be able to discern whether it is this or not, if she is holding her leg up often. If she generally stands on both feet, maybe she is feeling a little better. What a dilemma; I do feel for you, clt80. I hope she gives you a sign one way or the other so that you don't have to keep second-guessing yourself. My thoughts will be with you both; am relieved you don't have to go alone. xx

She's on her swing this morning, tweeting away at the others she can hear. I've left her in the kitchen today, and put dogs elsewhere whilst I'm at work. I'm going to finish early today so I can sit and watch her for a couple of hours before I decide to go for this appointment. I am so, so, so hoping that she will be brighter and I can cancel the vets.
