Hi, so recently my budgie has decided to feel comfortable enough to go on my hand, but when he does. He bites around it quite hard, I understand they tend to beak to explore the safety of its new perch but in this case it feels like it’s aggressive but not at the same time. He typically bites hard around the edge of my thumb and around my finger nail sometimes on the odd bits of my palm. He doesn’t want to come off my hand however which is what leads me to think it’s not aggression or fear in fact he’s quick to jump on it and bite away.
My only conclusion is that he sees my hand as a possible chew toy to exercise his beak?
It typically doesn’t hurt it’s just discomfort sometimes he pulls at the loose skin next to my nail and that does hurt

Give him something else to chew on besides your hand if you don't want him to do that. A little bobble of millet, a paper toy or whatever. He's just checking you out, seeing what you are made of. He doesn't have anything remotely similar, even his feet are different to our big fat clumsy hands. Enjoy it.
