I have to say though, it does depend on the voice narrating... I downloaded a Maeve Binchey book.. but whilst I knew her daughter narrated it, her voice just doesn't do it for me

I love my audio books. At the moment they are providing me with noise instead of the silence I just can’t deal with right now. I cleaned the house yesterday listening to a thriller, then took it running with me later on.
here in the U.K. if you are a library card holder you can borrow free ebooks and audio books online

I download books from my library for free. I know you are not in the UK, but it still might be worth checking out to see if you can do it there. For anyone who is interested, I do it through the borrowbox app.
I *think* I had to get a password from my library, I joined ages ago.

The libraries here have ebooks for free. You go to the library website, look up the book in the catalog and then look to see if an ebook is available. There is a link to borrow the book and it downloads with the app to read it. You don't need a Kindle. Check out your libraries' websites. I'm with you Hezz and jellybean. The audiobooks just put me to sleep! Amazon does have free ebooks but I'm not sure if you have to be a Prime member but worth checking out.

I'd rather a paper version of a book, but with the libraries closed, my next choice might just have to be reading on-line. I don't even want to do that. We will see what happens ... watch this space.

There are loads of free ebooks on amazon without any membership. Just search free books on amazon. I have prime though so more ebooks are free with audio books a small amount extra. I have never paid more than a fiver though.

It's a great app, really fast but it's just the one I was asked to download when I set up my account with the library. I'm in Northamptonshire so obviously different counties = different apps.

I use Amazon too. Now and again I sign up to Kindle unlimited and read everything I want then cancel. I tend to find an author I like then read everything they've written Right now I'm reading a lot of Dan Jones books. If you're interested in medieval history he's a fantastic author, historically accurate but entertainingly written. Loads of his docu-dramas on youtube too.
