Sorry guys i know there is a pinned thread on this topic but my question was not covered on that thread and i was unable to ask my question there for some reason?
Anyway, I have a few newbies and i think they may have scaly face mite. My resident birds are just about due for their quarterly top up to which I have been put on to Noromectin pour on as an all round parasite control, which so far looks good but I also have Avimec in my first aid box.
My question is which one to use?
The Noromectin I feel should only be used a few times a year - in my case quarterly for all round cover- so therefor i feel that a bird/s who are already infected then perhaps the Avimec weekly for 3 weeks as per the label. HOWEVER, i also want to treat them for everything else prior to introducing them into the aviary.
Feeling sketchy about dosing with the Noromectin and then a course of Avimec - or vise versa.
Ideas?

Avimec active ingredient is Ivermectin 0.1% which is what you need to treat scaly mites in budgies. It does also work as internal parasitic control. I've only ever seen Noromectin as a cattle pour-on which is at a much higher ivermectin (5%) concentration than something as small as a budgie needs. The active ingredient is the same - Ivermectin. You cannot dilute down a higher concentration to that which a budgie needs as the solution is not water-based.
You have Avimec. Use that and that only. It will do what you need it to do.

Ok thanks Hezz much appreciated So you're saying that Avimec will trans locate into the blood stream and deal with internal parasites as well? Noromectin is used the same way, one drop on back of neck... another forum also discusses the use of Noromectin among other brands as a suitable all rounder but i need to have a paid email account to participate on that site, which i do not have. I want to do an all out treatment though... so Avimec does inside and out, worming and all?
