I wasn’t quite sure where to put this, but it does concern owning pets in general, so this might be a suitable place.
Anyway, the time has come for me to apply for jobs. The way our application system works is that we answer some questions and choose up to 4 preferences, in ranked order, of where we want to work, and then we’re matched up to wherever we’re needed/deemed to fit into the best, ideally out of those preferences.
Ward jobs are three 12.5 hour shifts per week, which means I am gone all day for those three days but home all day for four, unless I am doing night shifts in which case I’m asleep in the house for parts of up to four days (but my sleeping in the day is pretty awful so will be awake for some of it).
Theatre or clinic jobs are all 5 weekdays from around 8am to 4/5pm. I wanted to have a spoke week in theatres during this placement to get a feel for it but with all the changes being made to how we’ll be working these last weeks and the fact that theatres is mostly shut down, I don’t think that will be happening.
I’ll probably be putting down a mix of both types of job for my preferences, but I’m debating what order of preference to give them.
For owning a pet, would I be better being completely gone for 3 days and home for all of 4? Or better being away for less time but on more days?
In terms of budgies I know that as long as I can set aside a room as a bird room and have more than one then it probably doesn’t matter too much which I do, though in winter Munchy was often thinking about bed by 5pm so I wouldn’t see them much if I was gone all week.
For other pets, well I assume it depends on the pet. The only other thing I’ve owned is a hamster and I don’t think he cared at all!
Any thoughts or advice?
