Has anyone ever had trouble sleeping? In particular not being able to get back to sleep when they wake in the night? I'm waking at 4am each day and it's driving me crazy. I'm so tired.
I usually have the radio on as I fall asleep. Once I'm asleep I'm ok until I wake at a random hour, I use to be able to close my eyes and drift back off. These last few weeks as soon as my eyes open I'm wide awake and that's me for the day then.
I've tried sleep apps with earphones in so not to wake OH. I've tried attempting to 'think of nothing', rolling over and changing position I'm sleeping, eye masks, them foam ear plugs.
Nothing is on my mind as such, someone asked if I was worrying about work and the virus but I'm not.
Anyone experienced similar or been able to overcome sleep issues? I'm wary about drowsiness that comes with sleeping pills as I need to be alert to drive to work and then work throughout the day.

I’ve always had sleep Issues. I can’t get to sleep. Since the coronavirus it’s worse. I’ve read it’s very common. All our routines are different, different interactions. It’s very common. Even if I wake up late, I’m tired. When I was off work my routine was also different, but I never felt like this. I know I’m anxious in the evenings some nights, but why that day who knows
I do have some pills, a low dose of zopiclone. There’s never (for me) any drowsy yech feeling.

I was listening to the radio the other morning and the presenter was talking about peoples sleep being disrupted due to the current situation, he said, years ago he had spoken to a therapist because he has always been a bad sleeper, and this is what the therapist told him.............
When you can't sleep, focus on something in your bedroom e.g. part of a pattern on your wallpaper, a picture on your wall, anything, but just focus solely on that particular thing, and say over and over to yourself..........I CAN'T SLEEP, I CAN'T SLEEP. and he said "I can guarantee that you will fall asleep, it works for me everytime"
It's not really sleep I'm having problems with at the minute, it's strange dreams, they always seem to be about this BL....Y virus and me fighting to keep my distance from people.

Yep wake up 3 or 4 times a night, I just lie there with my eyes closed thinking of things to do the next day and then forget about them when I wake up You don't need as much sleep as you get older apparently!!! What about one of those apps that play calm music, rain, waterfalls (be careful you might have to go for a wee) A friend whose been in hospital since last November is playing white noise. What about David Attenborough or Professor Brian Cox,there voices are so soft and gentle I never see the end of their programmes.

I'm also waking a couple of times in the night and finding it either difficult or impossible to get back to sleep, which is unusual for me. I'm not consciously stressing over this virus, but I still think that is what is waking me. Whilst these fears might not be at the forefront of your mind, they might be ticking away in the background.
If you usually enjoy good sleep which has recently changed, and you are not waking because of pain or any other obvious cause, remember that this pandemic might just be causing your brain to be more alert then usual.
The biggest cause of not being able to sleep is worrying about not being able to sleep. It's like a Catch 22 situation. Have you tried the 4-7-8 breathing technique? Google it.

Yes clt80, I'm having the exact same issue. I'll wake up around 4am and then just lie in bed wide away. I've tried reading and having Alexa play ocean or rain forest noises for me but that hasn't helped. Then around 3pm I get drowsy and want a nap which I can't do because then I want to stay up later. I also can't take sleeping pills because they make me so groggy the next day.

When i have trouble i lay and tell myself, NOT to close my eyes, after awhile you just can't keep them open, it works everytime

I'm going to try some of the suggestions tonight.
I was listening to Stephen Fry reading a sleep story the other night on a sleep app, was lovely but I was wide awake still at the end. I'm sure it works for some people though.

I also listen to the radio every night to try and fall asleep. Have done for many years.
I have terrible trouble getting to and staying asleep.
Does not help that Eve has started waking in the early hours even though she was previously a great sleeper.
I do have a lot of anxiety and am on a lot of medication (not anxiety related) and also wake 2-3 times a night to go to the loo.
If you ever find a magic solution please let me know!
