I noticed 2 weeks ago that my Yellow lays down when out of the cage. She usualy takes a nap on top of the closet along with her 2 girlfriens. They have a "station" with many branches and toys and everything up there, and they do use that regularly for a nap, but Yellow would more often hop down on the flat surface and lay down. Otherwise she seems cheerful and she chirps happily and plays with her friends.

These are the best shoots i can do. When i get closer, she's like "all good here" and then stands up..

We call this planking . Some do it more than others, ive found the hen's seem to do it more, resting their little legs. Many of us have flat blocks of wood in our cage's just for this purpose. If she seems well enough in herself this is all it is

The first time you see it, it scares the bejesus out of you, but really it is nothing to worry about.

It doesn't have a name as such, so looking up planking won't get you anywhere. Older birds can do this particularly if they do have underlying health issues but will be slower to stand up and give you that "I was just resting" look.

I just wanted to add, I too have some that lay down and it's normal for them, they've always done it. But recently I've had one do it who never had and discovered she's got bumble foot, check the feet, make sure they are ok.

But recently I've had one do it who never had and discovered she's got bumble foot, check the feet, make sure they are ok. Exactly. Also check the bird's overall health for any issues. I think the tubby birds are more inclined to lay down and stretch out. My thoughts are that not only do they give their legs a rest but by stretching out they open up their airways more - makes it easier for them to breathe.

I think i saw pinkish area on her foot. I wasn't able to take a photo of the foot though. She is not very comfortable with close encounters with us. Im going to contact a vet for further instructions. Your advices woud be appreciated too. P.S. Every perch in her cage is wooden except for the plastic swing. I think i'm going to replace it with wooden one.

Contacting a vet would be appropriate.
If it's bumble foot they'll gice you antibiotics and cream to rub on the foot itself.

Does she have different sized perches with different textures, such as normal tree branches? If she only has dowels or plastic to sit on then her feet could well be suffering.

Yes she does(with and without bark). Actually today i removed her swing, and rearranged the perches. I talked to a vet and we set an appointment on monday. He said i shouldn't do anything on my own. I just hope it's nothing serious.

Hezz I can definitely relate to that feeling of being scared out of your mind when you see it for the first time...
