Hello, I’m a new member hoping to get some advice. I recently acquired a 6 year old male budgie from a friend whose elderly parent could no longer keep. His name is Slinky. I decided to get him a little girlfriend from an exotic bird rescue and brought home little Janice, a beautiful lutino. She was very calm and quiet from the get-go. More like mute. She would just sit all day long, kind of hunched over. After a week or so, she and Slinky bonded. Or at least Slinky did. Soon after, Janice started moulting ... at least I think it was a moult... but it was lengthy and heavy. She was a mess for a long time - a couple months - and now most of her pink feathers have opened, but her tail feathers are a mess and her bum is a mass of fluff. She is eating and drinking and occasionally bobs her head and sometimes even chortled quietly (we were shocked to hear her!) but for the most part just sits in the mirror. She does follow Slinky around but dragging the train of feathers behind her is awkward and sometimes she loses her balance when hopping from perch to perch.
I will be Attaching a photo (when I figure it out ) in case anyone can offer some advice.

Can you get another photo of her from behind? It's a bit hard to see what is happening with the front view. Also a closer photo of her "under-fluffies" may be helpful as well. If things have dramatically changed with her from one moult to the next you might need to get professional help.

I got her out of the cage and took pics of her underside and it looks pretty grim. I sent photos to the bird rescue and they think it’s probably a cancer tumor.

Photos: budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/17937/uploading-photos-2Soo ... it looks as though she has some sort of tumour pushing the feathers askew. Is this correct? Not all tumours are cancerous, it may simply be a lipoma. What does it feel like? Hard and firm, or soft and squishy? Does it intrude into her body or can you practically get your fingers around it? Also where is this lump in relation to her vent? I'm still having trouble understanding why the possible tumour that I think can see in the photo is interfering with her tail coverts so much.

Sweet little Janice died last week. The tumour grew very large and red and one morning she was looking very rough so I called the vet but she died 5 minutes later. 😢 I took photos of the tumor which I won’t post here as it is pretty grim...if anyone wants to see for their own reference, pm me.
Yesterday I picked up a “bro” for Slinky from the rescue place...a beautiful blue boy who is yet to be named. Now I have two untamed older birds and have my work cut out for me. Expect plenty of posts in the future! 😬

So sorry about poor Janice itscindy. I'm looking forward to hearing more about Slinky and his new pal, especially what you've named him. I love seeing pictures!

Love the names - Slinky and YoYo! Yes, I did have those toys when I was young. Good to see that they are getting along.
