Hello everyone, Im in a pickle. We have two budgies and have had them for 5 or so months. The guy, Peter, has had some medical issues lately. Following a pretty nasty crash he's had a series of seizures. We took him to our local vet for this and are still waiting to get some results back. He was given medication and since then he has gotten much better however, this morning the poor thing woke up with a limp leg and wing and I first caught him on the side of his cage hanging on for dear life. As I let him out to examine him I noticed he was acting normally but was having trouble clinging onto my finger like usual, the foot seemed limp. He flew relatively normal, not like when his seizures happened only now every time he lands he land with the wing on the same side of the limp foot outstretched and has some trouble regaining his balance. He has a lot of sticky poop around the vent up to now had been somewhat stuck (he just managed to poop it out as I wrote this). My mom flat out refuses to take him back to the vet now and i'm very scared. Is there anything I can do to help? Im so scared of losing him. Here they are Healthy: Here is Peter now:

I'm sorry that you have had to join us with a problem like this with your birdie. No problem you joining of course, it's a great place to be.
The only advice I can give is to take Peter to the vet. I feel, from past experience, that he will have issues inside if he has lost the power in one leg. Poor little chap, I feel sorry for you both. Please convince your Mum that it will be a vet visit to try and sort this out.
Meanwhile try and keep him from moving about too much, keep him warm, make sure he is able to get to his food and water, and that he does eat and drink.
Please let us know how you get on.

Thank you, the community here is very welcoming.
Thankfully peter is eating and drinking like normal. I made sure he had some very soft calming music and dim lighting to rest. Unfortunately mom wont be convinced until I get my crap together. I cant believe my adhd might end up killing someone. My birds are the only thing keeping me productive but even now I cant concentrate. I wish I learned how to drive sooner.
I'll make sure to keep you posted on his condition though, hopefully she comes around. Cant even convince her now since she left for work and i've been left home alone.

Update on the birbs,
Not much has changed with Peter but his house mate Puff seems to have gotten agitated with him. We cant tell if its because she's jealous of the attention Peter is getting, she's frustrated that he isn't moving much like usual, or she's just worried and making sure he doesn't fall sleep on the spot without proper positioning. Normally she can be a little bossy and is a very sassy girl but she's never tried pushing peter off of the perches before. We don't have another cage for them and cant really separate them. Any advice?

If he can't stand up to her for himself you are going to have to get him his own little cage. A hospital cage is really a necessity anyway, for vet trips and the like. My thoughts are that Peter (I actually think Peter is a hen) has had another seizure which has affected the nerves down that one side. It is not uncommon. Unfortunately the more he has the worse his/her prognosis. If he continues to improve, let him have time out to fly as this will generally be its own physiotherapy.
It is not uncommon for a healthy bird to pick on one that is injured or ill.

Thank you for the information! Thankfully, Peter has gotten much much better by now! Taking him outside has helped to relax him a lot and he's flying as well as ever. He hasn't had any seizure type episodes since and has been very lively. We figured out Puff was being jealous after some weak attempts at imitating sick peter from her. We have since put more effort into including her as well after realizing we probably weren't giving her as much attention. She has since stopped attacking him and for a bird that is normally very very against being touched she is taking all the head pats in with pride. Overall looking good though i'm still going to try and take them back to the vet when I can to avoid any future incidents. Peter is still a bit shaky but he has regained almost all of his strength in his foot and is thankfully out of the danger zone for now. We will keep doing our best to balance rest time and free play time for him.
