I have already called the avian vet twice, but they have not gotten back to me. With all the covid-19 stuff they are not open for walk ins. I will keep calling. I really don't want to go to the "regular" vet because I feel like he knows nothing, but I will if I don't hear back soon.
Anyway.. last night just before bed Cypress was flying around, then landed on the top of our projector screen. I let him sit there a bit because he can't fall behind it or anything so it seems like a safe high place. While he was up there, twice I heard something like seeds falling. After the second time, I noticed him stretching his neck like he was going to regurgitate (he does it for Citrine sometimes). I also found some seeds stuck to the screen nearby. I realized from this forum and other reading, that because he was flinging the seed around this is vomiting. There was no liquid though and nothing got on his feathers.
I watched him really closely and he was otherwise acting exactly normal.
((Note, they just started exploring other foods besides seeds the past day or so.. he'd had a little bit of cooked brown rice, wheatgrass, and pepper seeds with his pellets. They also have a new play gym made of natural wood that they have been chewing the bark on.))
I called and left a message for the vet this morning, and kept watching him. He has been eating, drinking, and playing normally. Talking, flying about, playing with toys.. not puffy... and I haven't seen HIM vomit again.
He had even gone up to 33 grams this morning instead of his usual 32.
I was hoping he just kind of gorged himself on the new food?
But then at lunch Citrine did it twice Again no liquid, but bobbed his head like he wanted to regurgitate and then flung the seed all over the blinds.
I put a 1/4 tsp of organic apple cider vinegar in 4 oz of water in their water dish. They have each had a drink. I confined them to their cage for now and haven't heard anymore seed falling sounds but I can't be absolutely certain they haven't vomited anymore.
They are both still acting fine, but I am so worried.
The only other "off" thing I've seen at all, is that Cypress recently is starting to chase Citrine away from the food plate. I feed them on a plate so they can peck at the food instead of dig, and there is plenty of space for both of them around the sides of it.
He does let Citrine eat if Citrine is cautious and stays at the far edge of the plate, but if they end up too close together he squeaks and nips at him. It seems logical that irritability could be a sign of illness, but Citrine is not doing it back.. and neither of them are being aggressive at me at all.
I thought this was normal though, and I'm working on getting a different feeding situation in place, but I haven't found any good dishes available locally and of course mail order is delayed due to the darn Covid.
Ugh. I'm going to lose it if something happens to these guys.
Edit: I already removed all the new food except a sprinkle of Kaytee greens, and their pellets and seed mix for now.
