His feet should be warm. Budgies core temp runs up around the 41 oC mark, so quite a bit higher than ours, and the reason it is so important to keep them warm when ill - they expend a lot of energy trying to keep that core temp up. Glad you got a cuddle for your sins. The friendship has not been broken.

Glad little Bertie is better. Buddy fought me like crazy when I had to give him his nose drops for his respiratory infection. He also ran from my hand for a while after. He's forgiven me and will get on my hand now. You and Bertie will be best buds soon.

Thanks for the tip about warm feet Hezz. It is probably feeling normal now then. 6 more doses to go to kick those bacteria completely out. I wish I could speak budgie. I tell him all the way through how sorry I am for what I am doing and why I'm doing it

You are doing a great job giving Bertie his meds. Baytril really does taste awful (Not recommended but I did taste it out of scientific curiosity when we were first given some for gerbils). It's very bitter and tastes a bit like paracetamol, possibly worse. It's the sort of thing that makes you need something to take the taste away. And a tiny drop is a whole mouthful for a little bird. I'm glad that he's still being friendly with you. I still get that suspicious look from Randolph Carter and it's weeks since he last had any medicine by syringe.

Thanks willowsmum He had his medicine like a good boy this morning and came to me about an hour later for a cuddle. I was able to put my lip to his toe - my way of feeling the temperature - and I'm happy to report that although it's still a little warm, it's much cooler than it was. I'm sure it's not so sore either because he was a little clumsy at times flying and landing. Now he is as sure footed as he ever was. So happy I have this forum to come and talk about it. Hope I'm not boring you silly So glad to hear he's coming for a cuddle so soon afterwards. It'll all be over and forgiven soon . No, not boring at all!! I honestly feel that it's so good to be able to talk to others who care about their buds and have so much knowledge and experience they are happy to share. I don't know anyone else who has birds apart from you guys and you are an absolute lifeline. It's a real comfort knowing that there's such a supportive group of people out there, even if it is just sharing recipes and birdie pics!!

criswell I always think of you and Randolph Carter when I'm giving him his meds. He knew what was coming tonight and flew over to his perch on the other side of the room, then went and sat on the TV so I left him for a while. I always give him some seeding grass straight away to take the taste away and as a treat for being a good boy. It's not long before he starts playing and chattering again. willowsmum I feel the same, especially now we're in lockdown. I really does help talking about it on here. I feel so mean having to do it but I know it's for the best #5 more doses to go.

You're doing great with the meds, and isn't he the sweetest little guy coming for a cuddle.
The seeding grasses work wonders 🤣

Penultimate dose given. There should be two left but there is only one. I don't know whether to give it in two halves or just finish the course tonight. It should be 14 doses but will be only 13. I hope that will be okay. I suppose the room for error measuring 0.3 ml has only to be a little out to make the difference. Maybe I shouldn't have included the pointy end of the syringe as part of the dose

Last dose given this evening. I'll keep an eye on the toe/claw but hopefully any infection has cleared now.

Thanks jellybean, I certainly did I'll give Bertie a beak scratch from you for being a good boy. He loves that. He's sitting there now telling himself he's a pretty boy (although it sounds more like 'chewy boy' but don't tell him I said so )

Well done to both you and Bertie blue48. Big relief it's all over and tomorrow can be a lovely day without any nasty meds to give/take. Such a 'chewy boy' certainly deserves a big beak scratch!

One dose isn't going to be the breaking point, so I'm sure Bertie will be fine. Well done, both of you, for going the distance. I've seen too many people pull up short because it all becomes "too much". At least he knows he is still pretty chewy.

Thanks. I will always try to do the best for my boy. I've wanted a budgie for ages but I honestly didn't realise they could be such good company. When I took his cover off this morning I put my hand in the cage to give him a scratch, and he gave a little screech. I think he thought it was medicine time. I swear I saw him give a sigh of relief when it didn't happen
