I have taken the hood off my two budgie's water bowl. As soon as i put it in, they jumped straight in and had a bath. It didn't really look accidental, although im not sure (i have videos). Mango went in first and is now looking just a bit damp, while Muffin went in second and now looks like he flew through a waterfall They do seem to be just drinking from it and occasionally stepping in for a bath. They keep going back. Also, is it normal for budgies to be a bit clumsy when their feathers are damp? They have tripped almost of their perches once or twice but it doesn't seem to be bad. So my main question is, could they potentially drown in the water bowl? I'm not sure how much water is in it, but they have the ability to get out from all sides. So yeah, thanks for any advice given, i just want to make sure my little rainbow chickens are okay

A budgie definitely can drown in something that it can't get out of - a bad idea to leave glasses of water sitting around where your birds are. Many have drowned going in looking for a drink and not being able to get back out. The water shouldn't be very deep - about an inch deep is plenty for a budgie to bathe in.

Agree with Hezz. One of my budgies almost died last year from drowning in his water bowl. He had an injured foot and was no longer able to fly so he had no way of getting out again. Luckily I was standing next to the cage and saw it happen, so I pulled him out. It was one of those round metal bowls, slightly more than an inch deep.
