Hello there. About two weeks ago we brought little Pastel home with us. Since we were looking for a young budgie Pastel seemed perfect. He was advertised as young but ready to eat. Fast forward to us bringing him here. He seemed active and happy with his new budgie friends. A few days ago I realized that his droppings were undigested seeds. He stopped flying around much and looks much more like a chic now, constantly looking for warmth to sleep. He's always coming up to me to sleep. We are trying to find a vet to take him to. Our local vet does not care for birds much as he will diagnose them by looking at them so I'm hoping we actually find one. I'm assuming they sold him too young and now I'm very worried about him not making it. Honestly I wish I would have noticed right when we got him. Tucker, my male budgie does tend to feed him every once in a while but I'm not sure if it's enough since his droppings still contain undigested food. I would appreciate any form of help. I have contacted the seller to inquire about his exact age but no response so far. That's him, cuddling onto my hand. He won't stand still for pictures bc he keeps seeking something to cuddle with. You can also see his droppings on the picture.

He does look awful young, no breeder should allow any little bird to leave or be sold unless it is eating on it's on.
Could you maybe try him with some millet sprays, they will be easy for him to eat.
Poor little guy I really hope he picks up and is Okay.
Hope someone more helpful will be along soon to give you some help/advice.
He's a gorgeous little bud.

I'd get him to an avian vet asap he looks very sick. Could you do him some boiled egg and grate it, he might eat that and it's easy to digest. As jellybean suggested, some millet spray may help too. Hold his water up to him and see if he'll drink or syringe (no needle obviously) him some water with guardian angel in it if you have any.

We'll be taking him to a vet tomorrow. The one that actually treats birds only opens at 4pm but I guess that's the only way. Our local vet doesn't really acknowledge birds. He'll just look at the bird, not even examine it or take it out of the box and prescribes something. Not a safe option for me.
The seller has finally responded. As of today he is 7 weeks old meaning that we were sold a 5 week young budgie- Tucker still feeds him as of now and I have put in some millet which he happily ate.
I see him drink regularly which is good, that hasn't been an issue so far. But yes he'll be seeing a vet tomorrow!

What a dear little soul, poor baby i do hope the vet can shed some light on this. It could be that he has some internal parasites or an infection or simply because he hasn't hulled his seed properly.
Please let us know how you get on with this little chap.

I would get him some eggfood or egg and biscuit it is sometimes called. Breeders will often feed older chicks this to keep up their nutrition while still learning to feed themselves. Mix it into a paste and he should be happy to help himself. Young chicks can sometimes regress when taken from the environment that they know. Is he perching okay? He may still appreciate a little hide on the bottom of the cage to snuggle into, even though he is seven weeks old. Anyway I hope the vet gives you something positive to work with and he gets back to being a happy healthy little fellow sooner rather than later. Bless Tucker for giving him top-up feeds.

Hey everyone. To reply to some general help I received : He has been offered egg food, millet and he was perching just fine.
I got really paranoid this night and stayed up till 4, constantly checking on him. He was fine when I went to sleep. When I woke up as well. Came home from work about an hour ago. All help came too late I'm afraid. Pastel has passed away. This is exactly why people shouldn't sell budgies at this age. 7 weeks its- Its really a shame. I honestly wish I could have done better with him. If I had noticed earlier that he wasn't digesting right then I could have instantly taken him. I'm really sorry
