Harold has testicular cancer, his cere has been brown for a couple of years no. At the moment it's got so crusty it's blocking one of his nares. I'm having flashbacks to when this happened to Francine and I monitored it then she got sinusitis and long story short ended up passing.
Has anyone managed to help their budgie shed the top layers of the cere so to speak?
I picked him up to have a closer look, my god, he bites like a hen!!!!!!!! Must be the oestrogen.

SO sorry about Harold.
Could you smear a little vaseline over his cere to soften the crusty bits up? When they're softer you might be able to help them off with a cotton wool bud.

What a shame. What about olive oil rubbed on.

I used olive oil when my youngest was a baby and had cradle cap. Next day when I washed his hair the crusty bits would all come off.

I hope that helps him, poor boy. So sorry he's not well. How did you discover that he has testicular cancer - were there any particular symptoms that raised your suspicions?

His cere turned brown due to the hormone change and I took him to my avian vet and this was what she strongly thought. One of his brothers cere has recently turned brown, coincidence or genetic who knows.

clt80 thanks, that's good to know. I hope it's just coincidence with Harold's brother and that Harold's cere improves soon.

Welcome back Hezz, hope you are well, we have missed you. I got the vaseline out but as I held him to put it on I could see both nares were clear: I had thought his left was blocked but it wasnt. So I'm keeping an eye on it, if it starts to go over his nares the vaseline is coming back out.

Great that his nostrils are clear. You can try just gently giving the growth a rub, with or without vaseline, or any vegetable oil. It might help to give the build-up a soaking of oil, obviously being very careful not to get any into his nares, and then give it a bit of a rub after a few hours. I did that once with one of my hens but I do think hers might have already been starting to come off. It might work; might be worth a try.

Yes I could rub a small amount in, I wish it would just flake off. Poor Harold, it's doing nothing for his masculinity and impressing the ladies
