Buddy likes to sleep on his swing. It had two clapper type bells on the bottom but I noticed that they had a it of rust on them so I took those off and replace them with other bells. Buddy would bend over and grab the little brass bell and play with it. Tweetie Pie grabs the "Kevin" bell and plays with it. This morning I was on the computer across from them and I heard a squealing and flapping of wings. I looked and Buddy was hanging upside down on the swing and it looked like he was stuck. I ran over and grabbed him. He had a toe stuck in the loop holding the ring with the brass bell. I got his toe out and put him on a perch. It didn't look like he had hurt his toe but I've been watching him. I just got him on my finger to give him some millet and it felt like he was gripping OK. The toe is not swollen and he's not favoring it. Whew! No damage. I removed the swing and put a plain swing in. I think I recall someone else here has that same swing that also had some rust on it. If so, I hope you read this. Make sure those loops are left big enough that a toe can't get lodged in. Mine didn't have any "extra" metal to make those loops bigger. I could disassemble it and remove one of the beads but then I'm afraid Buddy might get stuck between the beads if they are not close/tight enough. I think I'll look for another "toy" swing for him.

It's a good job you were there to save Buddy. Who knows what would have happened otherwise.
Is Buddy okay now?

Jeez what a scarey moment! You have to be sooo vigilent with toys these days and make sure there is no way they can get caught up in them (because they always seem to find a way to somehow) Hope Buddy is ok now? I think with every bird toy, pet shop in the bird section they should sell valium in the next aisle along

Buddy seems no worse for the wear. He's happily chirping this morning making himself a nuisance to Tweetie Pie as usual. Right after I grabbed Buddy they both were a bit hand shy but later in the day I fed them both some millet on my hand and they both were OK with it. Too bad we can't tell them that we do these things to help them. I put a new (plain) swing in the cage right after I removed the toy one. Buddy didn't sleep on it last night. He was up with Tweetie Pie on a perch high up in the cage.

I am sure they can sense when you help them.. there has to be an element of panic when your toe is caught and then a nice relief when a human helps you, lol

I don't see why they wouldn't know. They are intelligent things. I've seen videos online of dolphins and whales that have got caught up in plastic and they certainly knew the humans were helping them.

I've just splashed out £27 on new toys for Bertie. I'm fed up with his old ones so I'm sure he must be. I'll check them over carefully but I always read the reviews especially the one and two star ones and I'm usually around.

I love the excitement of choosing new toys although I know what you mean, there's always a bit of worry thrown into the mix. Unless I'm misunderstanding and you've splashed out on a new pair of earrings

blue48 Looks like fun toys! I'm wracking my brain trying to remember but I read somewhere that the laces on those little tennis shoes are a safety hazard for budgies but I don't recall what, just that people were either removing them or replacing them with paper ribbon. If I remember, I'll come back here and post it. Maybe someone else will recall the issue.

The big pack of stuff I bought for our birds, the platform is disappointing though the attachments aren't strong enough to hold it up and the screws just spin instead the wood
