Is driving me NUTS As you probably all know, Sam is MIRROR MAD, I have been removing mirrors and putting them back on and off because he feeds them. Sometimes he's fine and leaves them be, but today he started the feeding again, so, out they came. He went nuts, flying round the living room, he even flew into the bedroom, he must have remembered there are mirrored wardrobes there, I had to retrieve him from there and put him back into the living room. I sat down to have some lunch and could hear wings flapping, he flew into the kitchen, picked him up, back into the living room, this time I closed the door, had no sooner sat down, again I could hear wings flapping, back into the living room I went, I opened the door gently because I could hear him chirping but couldn't see him, still opening the door gently, I was met with this sight......... I almost fell over laughing. What am I going to do with this boy.......love him 🥰

jellybean Munchy was much the same, although he stopped feeding mirrors for the most part. He used to feed the balls and, extremely irritatingly because there was nothing I could do about it really, parts of his perches. But he would sit on the door handle and chat to his reflection. Sometimes he would even talk to his fuzzy reflection in the white paint of the skirting board! It's funny what they'll do and completely bonkers! Which is how they make us when it's hard to find ways to stop them. Love him, he's such a cute little monkey!

I hate taking the mirrors, and toys with mirrors away @sillycat84, because I feel it deprives Ben, and he likes a mirror too, but he's never been obsessed or did this feeding thing like Sam.
If I take it away while he's playing and feeding it, he bites like a bl***y crocodile, and hangs on for dear life.
Other times he's the sweetest little guy and loves head scratched, I've never had a bird who's allowed me to do that, he also sits on my hand for ages and listens to me chatting away to him.
HE'S JUST NUTS ABOUT MIRRORS 😂😂

jellybean I can understand that! I didn't think a budgie would be so mirror obsessed when they have a real life companion! Imagine Munchy's face if I'd removed all his perches! Though I think regurgitating was more of a habit for him by that point. He only did it when hormonal, or at least to the point where he'd do it a lot on perches and not just a bit on one of the balls. The regurgitating on perches was one of the reasons why I didn't confiscate the balls from Munchy, even though he'd play with them more than anything else and not really do anything if he didn't have them. At least the balls were less of a pain to remove and wash than the perches were. Hopefully Sam will calm down in time so both he and Ben can enjoy mirrors without Sam's obsession.

jellybean that is so funny!!! Sam is going to find something shiny no matter what you do! He does sound like an adorable little companion.

There is generally a solution to most shiny things but I'm not sure what you can do about a door handle! Have you tried things that aren't shiny enough to give him a proper reflection? Thinking disco ball, teaspoons, bells etc

Tried all that Hezz, he is not the least bit interested, it's a mirror, or nothing. Then I feel guilty because Ben has to be deprived. No easy solution, it's not happening as often now, at the minute he's out playing on the boing with Ben 😄

Oh bless him, that is so funny It must be impossible to remove all shiny surfaces, and it seems he'll find one wherever it is. Now I just need to find out what the boing is. Obviously something that goes "boing", yes?
