Hello, firstly I have paired up a Male Budgie with a female Budgie for breeding the female Budgie has breed before with another Male. My question is I have a grey coloured Male Budgie slightly younger than the female by 5months I have put him in the breeding cage with the hen but instead he goes into the nest box and sits there all morning. He is definitely a Male, has been dna tested also he is 1 years old the hen is coming up to 1year and a half. The hen is a dark green coloured budgie. He is not ill as I have got him checked by the vets and they have said he’s all fit and healthy. Strangely when he’s comes out of the nestbox the female goes in then when she comes out he goes in....lol.

The thing with breeding is the birds decide if and when it will happen. If they don't want to nothing will make them. All you can do is have everything prepared ready incase they do.

]Hi, my birdcage has two pairs of budgies and two single male budgies who get along and don't interfere with the pairs. One of the single male budgies lost his mate to being eggbound and has been helping out one of my pairs by feeding a female and her chicks (even though she already has a mate). The female is surprisingly ok with that behaviour and even lets him go into her nesting box, even though that sounds crazy the male is also completely fine with it. Is this normal, has anyone seen this type of behaviour before? Thanks.

Hi Kay, would agree with clt if they are not ready to breed they simply wont i'm afraid but could I ask what you have been doing to condition the birds for breeding thanks. Hi nicola probably should start your own thread but have had a 14yr old handreared tiel help feed fledging budgies so after a few years breeding budgies nothing is normal or unusual
