Have you tried eating whatever it is you want him to try, in front of him? I used to do that and everything I ate, I was ooh hmmmm yummmy and making loud noises. not saying it will work, but it did for me. Bailey couldn't resist.. his fave corn and sugar snap peas.. he only wanted the peas inside

I'm glad Bertie is ok. They do worry us so much. I know how you feel about uncovering in the morning. When ever my boys are ill I get so stressed before waking them up. And I'm another one that inspects the poops first thing too.
I'm so glad you have a breeder that can help out when you are worried. It makes such a difference. Dexter's breeder was really helpful when I was worried about him when he first came to stay.
I hope you don't have any more scares xxx

Re the eggfood, if Bertie is happy to eat it, you can leave the dried food in his cage but if you do moisten it (mine were never impressed with the wet variety) make sure to remove it after the mandatory few hours.

He's not touched it wet or dry Hezz but I'll leave some dry in his cage. I hope I bought the correct stuff. Quiko Classic Egg Food
ffiscool, sugar snap peas, now that's something I haven't tried, and if he doesn't like them, I do

Basil, parsley and thyme are Pips favourite. Not fussy on broccoli. He would never eat apple, even though I put it in everyday for years and then all of a sudden it's his favourite food!! I think he remembers Jo liking the condensation on a gin and tonic but he tried to dive into a glass of beer

Any brand of eggfood should do the trick, blue48. If he won't eat it, try boiling up an egg for him. My guys have never taken to boiled eggs but like their eggfood; others' birds prefer the boiled egg and won't eat eggfood. The main advantage of the dried eggfood is that you don't need to worry about removing it after a short time. You could try sprinkling some over his seed. He may fall for that old trick.

Fresh hard boiled egg yolk and a little of the white mashed up and mixed with sweetcorn is a fave of my lot. They never get lettuce!! If Charlie gets a little constipated I give him celery, that does the trick. Charlie also likes to nibble on the white of the mashed up egg, they are supposed to eat the yolk of course!! Pip chews down the sides of sugar snap peas to open them and then get the peas out to nibble on! Also, if I eat an apple any time Charlie goes mad asking for his slice!! So glad your breeder guy could come round and sort things out/advise you blue48.

He's a diamond Geezer Shirls He's phoned a couple of times to make sure BertieB's okay now. I've snuck some egg food in with his seed and I'm off to our local market now, looking for sugar snap peas.

Mine only like their egg food dry. I'm not entirely sure who eats it but someone does at least some of it disappears. I could tell when Criswell has eaten some as he always used to smell of it. Cede egg food has a nice bicuity smell. None of my current 3 get that close to me though.

The one I bought smells lovely criswell. My boy has been studiously avoiding the sugar snap peas, both the whole one pegged to the top of his cage, and the one on his drawbridge which I opened so he could see the seeds. He clambers the long way round his cage to avoid even touching it. Funny but not funny, because I really want him to eat some veggies. I even peeled a pea and squashed it up with some millet seeds that he took from the palm of my hand, but he didn't eat the pea

Forgot to say, on the plus side, I think his claw is growing back!

Give him time blue48. Sugar snaps do keep fresh for quite a while in the fridge.

I'm glad Bertie's claw is growing back. My boys were so silly when I put some half grapes in their cage. They totally avoided them too. Who knew grapes could be so scary!

I think BertieB has expensive tastes because when I shelled the sugar snap peas for him and put them in a little porcelain dish he ate them. No plastic dishes for him
