Tasting done!!! Thought it was a bit sharp, but when I tasted the Braggs organic ACV that I have ( only got a little left) it tasted EXACTLY the same! I am so pleased! So will be bottling it today, it's not a large amount and will probably just about make three bottles which is perfect for me. I'm not giving the chickens ACV at the moment as they have been poorly and they are on propbiotics which aren't compatible with ACV. So won't be making another batch quite yet, but I will definitely make it again, it's so easy. If anyone wants the recipe/instructions do please let me know and I'll put them up. First off I do realise this post is 18 months old. I wonder if you've made another batch since shirts?! Danbury has a musty smell on his breath so I thought some ACV in some water would be a good idea. I'm quoting you because you mentioned it not being compatible with probiotics. danbury is permanently on avipro. I was going to hold up some tap water with the ACV in it but hadn't thought that both in his system at once wouldn't work. I see Hezz did 10ml in 500ml but I read on another thread only 5 in 1000 Can I do them both together?

Hi, JennyB, I'm going to wade in here. The ratio of ACV to water depends on what you are trying to achieve. If it is as a preventative then a couple of drops into 100mls of water is plenty. If you have an issue and are wanting to treat a possible candida infection for example, then you can increase the amount to almost any degree as long as the birds will still drink it. What is Danbury's problem that has him on Avipro permanently? Is this something a vet has prescribed; you might be best asking them, then. If not and you wanted to try giving him some ACV in his water, I would see how he goes having a day or two off his Avipro, or even leave the Avipro in his water as well. Even though the ACV may damage the good bacteria in the probiotic, enough goodness may still be contained to not adversely affect him. Funny you should find this old thread, as I have recently been wondering myself how Shirls's ACV had fared.

thanks hezz. I've missed being on the forum but my mental and physical energy had to be spent elsewhere for a while.
last time I halved his avipro dose it coincided with his bad foot so I'd be a bit nervous trying that again in this climate. but if you think it's okay to hold him up some ACV in water I'll do that.
he's got a new habit. you know how a budgie collects food in its mouth when it's about to regurgitate? well he kind of does that but doesn't then feed his bell. that's badly described I'll see if I can load a short video clip.

To get past your problem of what to have in his water, you could try doing that - giving him a drink out of a separate water bowl or giving him ACV for half a day and Avipro the the other half. I don't know whether one way or other would make much difference, as in when to put what in, morning or afternoon. I think I would favour over-night and morning with Avipro and then afternoons on ACV. One way or the other the ACV is going to knock out some of your good bacteria in the probiotic when he first drinks it but his natural gut/crop flora should be fine. Really it would depend on what you feel is the more important issue to be addressed, I think.

Yes JennyB I have. I have made several batches as I use more having chickens, they have it too and in a larger quantity than the budgies!! It does take 6 weeks or so to make, and I make about 3 pints at a time. If you would like the recipe I can put it on here. I'll look it out anyway, as I refer to it every time I make it!! Cannot advise you I'm afraid on giving it with Avipro. When I give ACV to the chooks, they don't have live yoghurt which I give them from time to time because of the bacteria issues. Btw I give Charlie (budgie) 1 drop ACV in 50ml water. Sometimes I up the ACV depending on his constipation issues!
