I feel for you ffiscool, literally. I broke a back tooth in Feb. Just went to the dentist and I need a crown. I'll be going in on the 29th to get it done. Like you, I'll have a temporary and then the permanent one put in about 2 weeks later. The dentist gave me the estimated cost - yes, mega bucks here too! It will take about 2 hours to complete the work. Not looking forward to that. I'll refrain from telling you about my experience so it won't add to your anxiety and anticipation.

bummer eh....
i am fine re the last bit, as he explained what he will do. so feel free, lol
I am staying on non hard crunching food til then. I have a cross bite too which makes this temp crown feel like it is in the way, but it is obv how my tooth was.
i have to say, this dentist was very good. i had not had him before, but he is very amusing and just nice..

Just to add to the crown stories..... in order to try to get to the bottom of a weird tingly feeling in my mouth the dentist removed a crown I had (nightmare to remove it, had to be drilled off in bits) and replaced it with a softer, temporary crown to see if it helped. A new permanent crown made which he hoped would fit better and he reassured me throughout the whole process that he would 'keep the cost down'. More fool me for not asking exactly what that meant. We decided as things had settled down with the temporary crown that he wouldn't replace it with the permanent crown, we would just wait until the permanent one came off and replace it then (and I'm always happy to avoid dental work for as long as possible). However, as he had made the new crown I would obviously have to pay for it. When he told me it was £390 I nearly fell over! Maybe I am naive but I had no idea it would be that much! So I've ended up paying for a crown which has been sitting in his drawer in the surgery for the last 10 months. The temp crown is clinging on (he had no idea it would last this long), only thing is it's turned a weird pink colour (thankfully not a front tooth). Dentist wasn't sure why this has happened. I know though! I'm quite partial to a glass of cava with cassis and I can only assume the blackcurrant is staining the crown. He doesn't need to know that though

Not good! It sounds like it was somehow pressing on a nerve. That’s the NHS cost of a crown, it’s a lot and I was told silver. I decided to have a private one.
I hope your pink lasts. Love the colour lol.
My temp one is silicone so def won’t last. The new will be ceramic.
I feeL that anything not cosmetic should be covered by NHS for at least a white or off white. It’s very wrong it’s silver as not having it for fun

Wow! You mean it's actually silver in colour!! That's going to be pretty noticeable in most cases. Think I'll stick with pink as long as possible! Sounds like ceramic was a good choice. Hope it goes well.
Yes, I think it was a nerve issue but I'm not convinced it was actually anything to do with the original crown, oh well, what's done is done.

This is the thing. I’ve had to not think about the cost. also I know way back teeth were just filled without other options. It’s because my molars are heavily filled. Only last so long. I’m also too heavy handed on my brushing. I’m going to get one that beeps if you brush too hard
