It's so hot today and BertieB has just enjoyed a lovely lettuce bath. It was deeper than usual, I put the water in a fruit bowl and had on the floor so I could watch him every minute but he loved it and enjoyed me dribbling water over him with a lettuce leaf He's now sitting on his high swing in front of the window drying off.

Aww how sweet. Nothing cuter than a budgie splashing about in the water.

Ok, I need to try this.. though I hate to waste the space/money if they don't like it. They've already got thousands of dollars worth of gear I've only been able to get mine to take a bath one time each. They have NEVER touched their insight bathtub that I can put inside the cage.. They get pretty mad if I spray them.. I put them on a perch in the bathroom once while I showered, but they must have hated it because they now refuse to go anywhere near the bathroom door again. I saw someone (here, I think?) who put out a bath with basil in it, and they do love to chew basil. Eventually with a clear pie pan, water loaded with basil, and a seed dish in the middle.. one of them got in lol. But then he was cold drying off Tried it again every week with no luck until last week when the other one finally got in. Then he kept trying to fly with completely soaked feathers so I don't know if he will want to have another go or not. Poor baby. But I have to leave the basil pie pan out for a couple of HOURS before one of them ventures into it, and I don't really like doing that.. cold water full of wilting vegetable matter, that's gotta be healthy.

love the pic of him using the shower - both of mine will not use the baths i got them but Drucilla love being gently sprayed with and spray bottle, she even climbs right onto the front bars and open her wings so she can get some there as well, Minimoo loves it for about 6-8 sprays then ducks out of the way - makes me laugh each time i do it

I got one!! Instant success. (ignore the voice of my b/f playing RDR2 in the background) Do you think it's too small? 2L looked/sounded too big to me, so I got the smallest one I could find.. but now Citrine looks huge trying to bathe in this thing

That is so cute! Congratulations. I've been reading a book about budgies. The author says that because budgies are desert birds they a genetically wired to be attracted to the sound of running water. If that's true, the sound of the falling water may have done it for your budgies! But then you said they didn't like your shower - maybe it was too hot for them? You have a success now!!! Enjoy watching them bathe.

That would explain why mine have always seemed to get excited by the sound of running water, tweetiepiesmom.

When I was a teenager we had a family pet budgie. When he heard the first person get up in the morning, flush the toilet and turn on the bathroom faucet, he start tweeting at the top of his lungs. Best alarm clock ever!

We don't have a built in dishwasher, so we have a moveable one that hooks up and drains into the sink. They always start yelling when the water drains

It's roughly the same size as the one I have. I didn't realise they made bigger ones.

Munchy hated bathing unless he was really itchy, but Peri used to jump in the fountain I got for them as soon as I put it out.
Indie has briefly sat on it and Indie has drunk from it, so it’ll be interesting to see what they make of it in time.
