After spending about two weeks in a cat carrier after he was found outside, Corvo finally got his cage in the mail! (He's not in the cage in the picture, he's currently wreaking havoc about my room) He's also finally starting to figure out toys, and he looks terrifying while doing it. I'm working on getting him onto more of a varied diet, as right now he'll only eat seeds. He looked offended the first time I put chop in his bowl. He's not hand-tame yet either, but he'll sing and be perfectly fine if I'm standing next to him, though I'm not too concerned about that. He does just fine going back in his cage on his own. Also, just so he's entertained and not feeling lonely when I'm not there, I've talked to my local bird store--that I didn't even know I had??--about getting a friend for him. A lot of people have been finding budgies or relinquishing them, so we're waiting for a potential buddy to come in!

Looks like he has made himself right at home, how lovely. And a possible feathered friend in the future - even better!

elle what a wonderful place for Corvo to play. I like his star toy - he'll have a lot of fun destroying that!

elle Looks like the cage I have. Is it the Prevue Hendryx F040? It's a good space for a budgie, so I'm sure he'll be happy while in there. Love the picture of him playing with the toy lol. Glad to see you thought to tie to spring loaded doors shut. Btw, I bet you could slide the wire rack in the bottom slot, even if for storage. It might also act as a emergency safety, should the plastic tray ever slip out of place. I had never thought to remove the wire grill at the bottom, and place the bottom tray up top. I might try this, at least in the morning, since Benji likes to eat foods off a flat surface.

Thanks, everyone! He's got a ton more Planet Pleasures toys in there now. My newer guy is a destructo-bird, but Corvo doesn't really shred things. Thankfully tweetiepiesmom, the star is still okay, though he got a little...TOO attached to it, if you know what I mean. He lost star toy privileges for a while And yep, Ellie, that's the one! I think the spring-loaded doors are the only issue I had with the cage. It's otherwise great. I haven't had problems with the plastic tray moving around since there's the little latch in the front, though I should try sticking the extra grill part in the bottom slot! Having the tray as the bottom--without the grill--is easier for me to clean, and I love hearing Corvo's little pitter-pattering as he plays with toys on the bottom. <3

elle lol did you go amazon shopping? Sounds like we have similar things going. I was really happy to see the Planet Pleasures toys start selling on Amazon here recently - and as fairly good prices as add-ons. Much better than some of the offerings you usually see. Not sure which ones you picked out, but this one is a favorite for Benji.
It's pretty big for a small budgie, but he hangs off it, and loves chewing the little strips on the bottom. As for the cage, yeah, those spring loaded doors are pretty dangerous. I ended up using zip ties just to be safe. Btw, if you ever need to put the grill in on top, one of those little dish brushes with the plastic scraper works wonders on keeping things clean. His cage doesn't get too dirty since I scrape it in the morning and evening and give it a quick wipe down every day.

If you're into arts and crafts, making your own toys is so rewarding for both you and your birds! Mine love the ledges I put in their cages/ aviary, they always seem to prefer to be high up.

Ellie I spent so much time on Amazon haha. I got the pinata on there, though Corvo didn't really seem interested. WALLY, on the other hand, LOVES it. I went on the Planet Pleasures website and ordered a few more toys there. Shipping prices aren't bad, and Wally had fun with some of the ones I got from there as well. Here's another victim that was torn apart in just a few days. And Barry, that's a really good idea. Especially now that I have more of a sense of what materials the birds like.

elle, by the looks of it, Wally really loves it lol. Benji isn't a power chewer, he mostly nibbles on the strips at the bottom and the smaller parts like the thin strands and little twists of coloured palm(?) weaved in. But now I'm curious - what was on the inside of the Pinata? Shredded paper? I bought 4 toys, just to try them out and get an idea of what he likes. Btw, if you also picked out the "caterpillar" (at least in small) keep an eye on them with it. It's not solid (more of a weaved twist) and somehow Benji got his foot tangled up in it while trying to climb it. Thankfully I was there to pluck him off. Barry I second that. I've made a few myself that he's really enjoyed. It's nice because you can pick and choose things to put together that you know your budgie will actually make use of. What are the ledges you made like?

Yep, shredded paper. Wally loves to make a huge mess. I'm glad he gets a lot of joy out of it, it makes me happy to see that the toys are actually getting used!
