Hi all, I'm new to the forum and hope I do this ok. As a child we kept budgies, fabulous birds and as and adult my children have asked to keep birds. Currently we have 2 that are approx 3 months old. We are hoping to add to these tomorrow but they will be kept in separate rooms away from this lovely pair and will quarantine. I'm hoping you can help we believe Snow to be a recessed pied and a boy:
And Atlas to be a girl (who is green if I've got the images round the right way!): Atlas' ceve seems to be changing colour even in the last few days. Together: We did breed birds, including budgies but this was many, many years ago and we never came across an albino that I remember. Snow seems to take his cue from Atlas who seems to shield Snow and is a bit braver. This pair are unrelated and we have considered possibly breeding (for family) once in a few years depending on how they are and so at this stage it is completely curiosity but if they are a boy and a girl what colour combinations do you think they could produce? Thanks you for any advice and help.

I would agree; Boy and Girl.
Can't help with breeding, or colour mutations, sorry.
Two lovely birdies.

Atlas looks like a girl to me and the other a male. If you are introducing new birds to existing ones then you are right to quarrantine. Your new birds need to be quarrantined for 4 weeks before introducing. Just in case there are any underlying illness's or conditions that might spark due to the relocation to their new home or being in contact with other birds as they could pass it on to your existing ones. When you do come to introduce then it will need to be under supervision so that feathers dont fly! As for their mutations, I would be guessing! But someone should hopefully be along soon to advise. Lovely birds tho welcome to the forum tretinker

Yes, they do look to be the sexes that you think they are.
The boy looks a little hunched over and fluffed up, does he always stand like that?
How are his droppings? is he eating well?
Might be worth an avian vet visit.

Great photos of Atlas' cere - definitely a hen. Nothing like so clear for Snow, but from the little we can see, boy indeed.
If you are going to breed don't leave your hen waiting too long. Between 12 months and three years is the optimum breeding age for hens, after that they can run the risk of exhaustion and/or egg binding.

Might be worth an avian vet visit. No bless he doesn't at all the picture were taken in quick success and something happen but I can't remember what but he had jumped bless his little heart. He's normally beautifully smooth and neat. He's eating well and poops seem normally, obviously they are together so I can't tell who's are who's but all the poops are normal. I will keep an eye on him particularly though thank you. Our new additions have arrived and are equally as beautiful. They've got a large cage in a completely separate part of the house and with this nasty virus we are used to obsessive hand cleaning and general cleaning and we are making sure there are no physical interactions whatsoever for the next 4 weeks. They were talking to each other this morning though when I bought them home it was brilliant! Tiki was chatting to Snow and Snow was bopping up and down.

Thanks everyone! I will try and get a better picture of a less upset Snow tomorrow or Wednesday, along with Tiki and Coco.
I think it's unlikely we will breed them but it's interesting because it seems to me they couldn't be more opposite in colouring!

It's funny because Tiki's ceve looks pinker today, it may be wishful thinking because Coco is definitely a girl! I think Tiki is a recessive pied with a yellow base, is that correct?
I'm on my phone and can't figure out how to post the pictures but I'll get on the tablet and try.

Tiki is a little bit annoyed because I fell off the chair while taking the pictures and made the poor babies jump bless them! But they were the 2 ,best shots I could get.

The cere definitely looks more pink in those last two photos, which would make tiki a male.
