Hi All, Bought my first budgie today, and I asked for young male. They gave me this young buddy. I dont know his age. Eyes are still all black. Can somebody confirm what gender it is please? Many many thanks in advance!

At a guess I'd say Male.
A gorgeous bird too.

Hi Marianne, I would say the cere is light purple. (but more blue then pink). The area around holes is very light, almost white. Thats why i have doubts. He is also not very vocal, but also not playfull. Adding few more pictures. Thank you all for your posts on this. I really aprechiate it!

We have a young yellow one that is similar. The whiteness around the nostrils doesn't seem to show up in the pictures in the same way as in real life. I too asked for a Male and this is not the case I don't believe with mine either.

Aw, some of these photos are confusing. Just when I've decided male, I look at another photo and think maybe not. If you are seeing definite whitening around the nares, and some of the photos do show this, then I guess you'd have to say "he's a hen".

Oh crap... What should i do now? She will need a partner right? I wanted a male to teach him to talk (that was order from my 4yo daughter) Can hen be trained to talk?

If the only reason you have a budgie or five is for one to talk then you are going to be disappointed. Not going to happen. A hen can be just as happy on her own as can a male as long as she gets plenty of interaction from her human flock.
